Guest guest
Hi, My name is Kathleen and my son wore a DOC band with good results graduating just over a year ago. We are now expecting twins and I want to do everything I can to prevent Plagio. I bought the Head-n- Back positioner from Basic Comfort and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience, positive or negative, with this product. It specifically states that it is designed to lessen the occurrence of Plagio. We are going to be extremely mindful about tummy time and repositioning but I was hoping this product might be helpful to us. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Kathleen (Max's mom, DOC band grad 2-14-04)
Guest guest
I am not familiar with that product. I just wanted to congratulate you on expecting twins. Guest guest
Hello. My youngest Daugher, , has mild/moderate plagio and tort and I had purchased a very similar product (different brand) when we noticed her flat spot at about 2 Months. It was already too late for us to prevent the plagio at that point, but I'm sure that the memory foam pillow helped it to not get worse. The one that you bought looks like it has a little bit bigger pillow than the one we bought at Babies R Us. The pillow was my main complaint since it was small and would always manage to get her head off of it. Memory foam is a great product for plagio prevention. Good luck to you and CONGRATS on expecting twins! Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, Congratulations on expecting twins, how exciting! I have a 4 month old, and am working dilligently on plagio preventive repositioning. My older child, Remy, had plagio/brachy, which we treated through aggressive repostioning, so I am fervently hoping we don't have to deal with any headshape issues with our son, Gunner. I did indeed buy a positioner very similar to the one you are describing. I thought the memory foam pillow was nice and soft - more comfy than I expected. The memory foam pillow was attached to a thin, cloth base, and the two postioning wedges velcroed to it. My son was a generous 8 1/2 oz. at birth, even though he was 3 weeks early. I personally chose the side sleeping position for him, continuing what was practiced in the nursery at the hospital during my 4 day stay there (c-section birth.) I would say I was able to use it about a month or so, not very long. The memory foam pillow is not a very large half circle, and Gunner would wiggle his neck around and eventually wouldn't stay totally on the surface. I think for smaller babies or babies that don't move around much you could get longer use out of it. I also tried a new product out. It is called the Nightform. The idea behind this product is that it is a bassinette-sized, foam mattress combined with wedges for positioning. This infant bed came with an illustrated instruction sheet that showed how you should rotate your baby through 10 different positions. An appealing feature about this product was that the mattress and the wedges were all together. I used in by placing it in the crib, placing it in the bed when we sort of co-slept, and placing it in the bassinette. It can work as a stand-alone device. The Nightform is covered in soft material, and there are two wide pieces of material which extend from the center of the Nigthform, that fold over the velcroed postioning wedges, and wrap around to the back of the mattress, eliminating concern of loose wedging around the baby. I got about 3 months of use out of this product before Gunner started sleeping without it. It was neat that Gunner benefitted from a soft, cushy, safe surface under his head, but that this surface wasn't a separate, small pillow that he could maneuver around. Here is the link to the Nightform; I'm not sure if it's available in stores yet: NightForm Infant Positioning Bed The NightForm is an infant repositioning bed and wedge system designed to allow your infant to sleep on his/her back while still enabling you to reposition your infant to prevent plagiocephaly. http://www.nightform.com/ There is another interesting product out there I'd love to hear a review on; it's the sleepshaper at www.sleepshaper.com (you may want to check this one out as well.) Guest guest
Hi Kathleen! Wow, twins! Congratulations! Like you've already been told, www.nightform.com or www.sleepshaper.com see like the best new products out there. Also many repo parents love the Bumbo Seat, which would be great for prevention as well. There are so many neat new tummy time products as well, one being a new water themed Baby Einsten gym. When are the babies due? How is Max? , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma http://hannahsnoggin.typepad.com > --- In Plagiocephaly , " dtrapp2000 " <katrapp@c...> wrote: > > > > Hi, > > > > My name is Kathleen and my son wore a DOC band with good results > > graduating just over a year ago.
