Guest guest
Hi Cheri, Ed saw Dr Oh today at UAB. We were impressed. I guess he is the head of Neuro there. We are making another trip up in July for a muscle biopsy. We will probably stay at the Radison Hotel right there next to the hospital. We stayed in Homewood at the Fairfield Inn this time and we were not really happy there. Maybe we can hook up this next time. What doctor do you see? Where are Birmingham do you live? > > > > Just checking in and catching up on all the post. My son had a > > car > > > > accident Thursday. Guest guest
Hi there, I live in Gadsden which is about 70 miles out of Birmingham. I see Dr. Saway at Rheumatology Associates on Highland Ave. I have never seen anyone at UAB, just have a lot of friends that work there. ha ha When in July are you going. My fiancee will be here from June 29th until July 6th and then I am going to Arizona from the 6th to the 20th. So I am hoping that you say it is at the end of the month. Or the very first of the month because I know would also love to meet you guys. Hope to hear from you soon, Cheri > > > > > Just checking in and catching up on all the post. Guest guest
Welcome Marge! You have certainly found the right place.. We are all different people with different backgrounds with a wide variety of weight and weight loss goals. You will definitely fit in here! Congrats on the 3 lb loss! You can do this! So just jump right in and join the fun - > Maybe you all can let me know if I'm in the right place. > > I'm a little over 300lbs and have been on JC, WW, seen my weight go up and down....and up. > > I last did JC about 6 years ago. Since then I've been concentrating on developing an exercise routine. Now I walk about a mile a day, 6 days a week, and do about 1/2 hour of resistance exercises about 6 days a week (which includes about 15 minutes of 3lb weight lifting every other day). After years of working on it, I've finally got myself into this routine. > > I lost inches, but not a significant amount of weight. I've finally decided that I want to get this weight off. I pulled out my papers from JC and have used it to develop an eating program. Last week was my first week on it and I lost 3lbs (YEAH). I was so thrilled. > > I know that I need extra support to keep me going for the long haul that this will be. I don't want to get obsessed by the scale (which is something I fall into). > > If you don't think I fit into your group, feel free to let me know. > > Thanks so much! Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- > I basically figured out about a 2000 to 2300 cal diet using the Craig exchanges > for fruits, veggies, starches, etc. So, it's actually more of an eating guide than a diet, > a way for me to very consciously up my veggie and fruit consumption, to keep my > portions reasonable, and to down on the sweet snacks (my downfall, lol). Sounds like a great start to me! Play around with it and find the " menu plan " (notice I did not say " diet " ) that works for you! > You know, I really think I was eating lots more ding dongs > and chocolate than I consciously would admit to myself, HAHA. Oh girl, I think we have all been there! It's amazing how we can fool ourselves into not realizing how much of something we are shoveling in. But I am convinced that we CAN reprogram ourselves with time and effort! > I can tell you it literally took me years and much moaning and groaning > to finally get to a place where the exercise didn't seem like a chore. > I still have to push myself sometimes. Living in Brooklyn without a car helps > to keep me walking. NYC is a very walk friendly place. When we lived in > CA for 6 months, it seemed like everything we did necessitated a car, so > that we walked soooo much less. After we came back to NY, walking > 3 blocks to the store seemed like such a distance!! Ok, on this one I am still a skeptic, LOL. I can't ever see a time in my life when exercise is not an effort (or course, if there is no effort, I suppose it defeats the purpose :::grin::. I have resigned myself to the fact that exercise is somthing I need to do, however, just like working for a living. Hopefully as I slim down, I can find more " carefree " activities that I enjoy that count as exercise. I would love to learn how to rollerblade, cause my hubby enjoys it. I'm a total klutz though, so want to lose as much as possible before I attempt it! > I've set a couple of goals for my self, one at 250, one at 200, > to make this feel as positive a process as possible. You should definitely set mini-goals, it makes the journey seem less daunting. I started WLB at 285, and have set my first goal at 250. I chose 250 because I figure after 35 pounds, I should be able to fit into a smaller pant size, and will treat myself to one new outfit as a reward. Best of luck! Guest guest
>>>Welcome to the best group around. In my opinion anyone who wants to lose weight and get healthy belongs. This is a great group with tons of inspiration, encouragement, support and friendship. As you can probably tell we just love to talk. Everyone here is so great and I have learnt a lot. thanks!! I was thrilled to get all the emails this morning. It's great to have a support group. :-) >>>Just a little intro, I am Elana 32, 5'3 and currently weigh 221.5 My whole life I have been chubby and fat and had managed to diet my way up to 232! pounds. I was heavy since I was a teenager, then in late highschool I lost 100lbs (!!) (howd I do that??? lol, went to *lots* of weight watchers meetings--then everybody went on a 1200 cal diet, was not fun). Gained it back and then some at the end of college and afterwards. Lost 30 on JC, then just worked on the exercise and learning to rework the amounts and what I was eating. After all that dieting I was so tired of weighing and measuring and constantly thinking about what I was eating. >>>i had gone down to 216 but in the past couple of months have been really bad and i am now going up and down. I fully expect to hit plateaus and gain and lose; it's hard to imagine going through the process and not running into that. I did every time I went to lose weight. I want to go into this realizing that, and working to keep my long term goal in sight as possible--skinny minnie marge, LOL. HEALTHY Marge, active Marge. :-) You must feel great about what you've done so far. XXXMarge

Guest guest
Hi ... Welcome !! I have the same in my background, and am very hopeful these days... Lots of "internal / mental" work, but the payoff seems well worth it... Haven't read the required readings yet, but have them all on order... Keep sharing and try to be patient and gentle with yourself. Especially over mistakes.. Glad you're here...
