Guest guest
SEASON'S GREETINGS From: Elaine Gottschall To: All members of Pecanbread Listserv December, 2005 What are the first things I think of when thinking of " holiday greetings? " I guess I am peculiar in having the words: " No room at the Inn " when was about to give birth and " we light eight lights at Chanukah to commermorate the battle to free the Israelites " come to mind FIRST. These ideas have formed a way of thinking for me, as one person, and I think should be very important to parents of autistic children. No Room at the Inn Parents could not get the proper medical attention when they consistently and constantly told their professionals that their children had gut problems - no " room " for an appointment for a colonoscope until Dr. Wakefield came along! " No room " on NIH's agenda to test the safety of the onslaught of vaccines (and this is not to mean that done properly, vaccines are not valuable) on babies whose neurological systems are not fully matured. " No room " in the minds of psychologists who insist that nurture is the only reason for behavior problems and cannot understand that Nature (biology) and Nurture was be looked at hand in hand. And I could go on. Fighting a Battle And fighting a battle as Judas Maccabee (in the Chanukah story) waged to free his people as we, parents of sick children, must wage continually to heal our children in spite of billions spent on medical research that give us more diagnositc tools and band-aid treatments without real cures. At this holiday season, I am so grateful for blessings. Mimi, who brought SCD to autistic parents; to Dr. Bernard Rimland for his ceaseless fight to find a cause/s and cure for our children; to the moderators of pecanbread for their tireless work; to the memory of my husband who worked to give me the independence and courage to carry on my work ; and to YOU - the courageous and brilliant parents who saw the good sense in trying out a scientifically based, nutritious diet (in spite of all the work) to help your children recover. With much love, Elaine
