Guest guest
Hello, Maybe I am paranoid due to all the talk in here of hypoglycemia. However, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if something is going on or if my experience is normal. My estimated delivery date is June 25. Therefore, I am over three months pregnant. I did not know that I would be this exhausted in my fourth month. Is it normal to be tired all the time at this point? In addition, I seem to be getting cravings for sugar. I only get slightly lightheaded, but if I have not eaten in awhile, I seem to want sugar. I find myself grabbing orange juice and dried pineapple chunks. I am trying to stay away from the bad sugar. It is not really my style to want sugar. Before I was pregnant I did have a piece of candy here and there. However, I never craved juice like I could not get enough. The last time I was pregnant, I might have been getting more protein. Part of that was due to the fact that I could digest chicken and turkey at that time. Now I have difficulty digesting over two ounces of poultry at once. I also used to eat a whole can of tuna everyday. This time, there is a warning on canned tuna (due to the mercury) so I have to stay away from that. I used to eat peanut butter before I was pregnant, but I have been told to stay away from that since I have hayfever. They say if you have hayfever that eating peanut products while pregnant can cause fatal peanut allergies in the baby. I am trying to eat two whole eggs everyday since that is the current recommendation for pregnant women. They say the choline in the egg yolk is good for the baby's brain development. I used to eat four to six jumbo egg whites every day, and that really helped to keep my protein intake up. Now that I eat the entire two eggs, I feel that I am all " egged out, " and I have a hard time supplementing my protein intake with egg whites. If you have any suggestions or advice for me, please feel free to write to me in the group or privately. Guest guest
Well, I complained to my OB/GYN at my last appointment about my sugar cravings. She said that it was my bodies way of telling me that I needed to eat. It is normal in pregnancy, especially from the 4th month on. She said that when your blood sugar gets low you crave sugar. I hadn't been hungry since my surgery and the hunger feelings started shortly after Halloween. She said that my body was telling me to increase my caloric intake (it was at about 900 calories a day back then). Now I still get these cravings if I don't eat something every few hours. I keep pistachios on my desk and eat about 10 or 12 of them every 2 hours or so. I also have protein bars on my desk for when I feel I'm having a low sugar episode. My " episodes " are different than other peoples. Many people get the shakes and/or a nervous feeling. I don't. My body just seems to shut down (I have to lay down because I'm dizzy and weak) and my decision making ability goes to heck. I know what I need but I'm not in the mood to fix it if I let it go too far. I have passed out once this pregnancy from a combination of low blood pressure and low blood sugar. I bumped my head really bad against the wall when I passed out and had a huge bump on my head for a week or so. I think you are doing the right thing by feeding your body with good, natural foods. I would definitely talk to your doctor about it at your next appointment though to see if they have any suggestions or see if they want to run some blood tests. Good luck. diet/exhaustion/ & more... Guest guest
Shoshannah, Is this your first pregnancy? Just wondering..This is mine and I am 27 weeks and am still tired all the time...I thought I was supposed to get a break in my 2nd trimester and it seems like I did sort of..at least for a couple of weeks. But now I'm tired all the time again. I am anemic, but am taking supplements so...I think being exhausted is normal throughout your whole pregnancy..at least that's what everyone says. As far as protein, I do eat a lot of eggs and chicken, pork and red meat. When was the last time you had your levels drawn? Maybe you should check that out just in case.. Guest guest
I too thought I would get a break from the major fatigue once I hit my 2nd trimester, I did catch a small break for a couple of weeks, then the fatigue was back until my 3rd trimester and got a little better then. Just thought I would let you gals know that it is quite normal to be so tired. But, it DOES get better, just a little later in my experience. Marcy Re: diet/exhaustion/ & more... Guest guest
So, when we crave sugar does that mean that is what our bodies need? LOL I've been craving sugar lately too ... much to my dismay. Re: diet/exhaustion/ & more... ...since you are expecting a boy that rules out the girl theory...lol..I think you are probably right...it is probably our bodies telling us what we need..best of luck...
