Hi Jen-

Great questions! I plan on just answering any questions that come up. I'm

sure some day he'll ask why he has casts on or pictures with the DBB. I'll

wait till then and then address the questions. I don't think there is any

research saying cf children are not as fast as running as other children

either.

Hi I just wanted to jump in here on this one my son is now 21 years old and he

was born with bilat. c/f I never made a big deal of it with him if he asked I

answered him with the truth and left it at that he never really had too many

questions I guess it was something that he knew from day one and things were

different then to with treatment and surgery he just learned about it as he grew

up with it . as for running slower and stuff like that my son was in a track

meet at his school when he was 7 he got first place in all his races and also he

got first place in long jump and the high jump events. and he was wearing a

brace still at that time so I really don't think c/f will slow any child down

with the treatment being so much better and the correction being 100% now days

that was not the case for my son but still he did great. Leora

Hi Everyone,

Well, to answer your question about what the plan is to well your child. My

son is 3 years old and he understands that one foot is a slight bit smaller

than the non clubfootleft . It does not effect him in anyway and we do not

make a big deal out if it so he does not feel that it is a defect as he gets

older we do plan on telling him of all the things that happened and travels

to NYU for treatments with the Ponseti Method and that traditional treatments

that he recieved prior to the Ponseti Method.

We did keep some short casts and some of the Ponseti casts and took pictures

of him in casts. Zachary says that was his boo boo foot but it's ok mom.

it't ok! I think it bothers me more than it effects him that he was born

with a clubfoot. I think if children are told the truth is makes things

better.

I agree with all comments + the fact that they may have to deal with

problem in the future. Their kids or grandkids may have it. Now I have

to also warn my daughter that was born with normal feet. My husband was

born with normal feet but his brother was with the CF. His brother's

kids (twins) are ok but we got it. No other known relative with it.

Looks like once it starts appearing in the family, it will continue with

or without skip of generations. I am planning on participating in Dr.

Hecht's research.
