Starting on a lower ratio is good. It seems more and more keto teams are

starting at 2.5 and working their way up if need be. I wish we had started

at 2.5 and worked our way up. The higher the ratio the less nutrients and

the harder it is on our children's stomachs. There are many kids out there

who have success on the lower ratios. Why have a child at a high ratio when

they respond well on a lower ratio? Also, too high of ketones have been

known to cause seizures in some kids. I'm guessing that Dr. Freeman's book

needs to be updated. I wouldn't be surprised if he is now starting his

patients on a 2.5 ratio.

Rhonda (mom to Shan, age 9, keto/Atkins kid over 2 years, now on a .8:1

ratio)

during our consult with the dietican she said she would " probably "

start Luke out on a 2.5:1 ratio. From reading Dr. Freemans' book I

thought most people began with a 3:1 or 4:1. I need other

opinions...........

Our daughter started out on a 3.5-1 ratio which did her no good, she's now

at a 3.75-1 and fewer calories. She is a vegetarian, so lots of

salad/cheese/olive oil is a big part of her diet. It looks small, but at 5,

Stella is getting harder to feed, she says she is full 1/2 way through her

meal. We are still waiting for the keto miracle to happen, my guess is her

ratio will increase because of the lack of seizure control she has. It was

nice starting out lower, because Stella had a lot of issues with being

hyperglycemic. If it's not one thing its another.

Best of luck

-mom to stella, 5years old, started keto diet May 10th 2004 still

waiting to be seizure free. Also on Lamictal, diazapem and Diamox.
