Hi, Kris:

BP of not, you sound fun. I think you'll fit in great. I have five kids:

Enrique, soon to be 16, AS; , 13, NT; Sophie, soon to be 9, NT;

Xavier, AKA Putter, soon to be 7, ASD; Robbie, soon to be 4, NT.

Whew! All those " soon to be " wore me out. It's about to be the Gamez

Family BIRTHDAY SEASON, that lovely two week period when four of my five

kids have their birthday.

Hi Kris! Great to have you. =)

I'm Sara, wife to Matt, and mother to , , and 'Punkin' due

late May. is 3 and has autism & a list of other diagnoses. He is

very bright and we have high hopes for him. He started pre-school a few

months ago and has made some great leaps in his language skills since then;

I think being around other verbal children so much has really helped him

along. His teacher is very familiar with autism and really understands how

to work with him. I love her! Gabe is 19 months and has a speech delay and

is " at risk " of developing other problems. He was recently seen by a dev

ped who said he has some signs of ADHD but he is too young and mildly

affected to diagnose with anything now. We are getting EI started with him.

He had 2 small seizures in the last 2 weeks of December so we are looking

into that now too. 'Punkin' is doing well so far. ;)

A warning: we sometimes say fairly nasty things about the people who teach

our kids, but the people who teach our kids sometimes do some fairly nasty

things. Please don't think we hate teachers in general. I think we all

know that a teacher who cares and listens is a true gift, and appreciate

such people when our lives are blessed by them. (Since you're here I would

guess you're one of the latter type...)

Welcome to the list! :)

-Sara.

Sara, so nice to hear from you! it's nice to know about your

family. oh, don't ever feel bad about talking about teachers. I hate

teachers in general. I think that school systems suck in general.

you know, except for me, i don't mind being puked on or doing SI

stuff. hey, sometimes i get a wacky parent that drives me nuts too.

sometimes, i'm the wacky parent that drives everyone nuts. my

principal taught special ed for 23 years, she's awesome, and she's

all about what is best for the children, so i'm lucky. J: if you

need some lithium, I'll be glad to send you some. DO NOT slow down

on your meds, or you'll be well you know either manic or depressed.

Hey, my favorite is when, i'm in the middle of a crying fit, and i

think hey, i can drap red fabric around david's ceiling and it'll

look just like a circus. then i'll usually paint some more murals on

someone's wall, and then just sit down and start crying again. it's

wierd. i'm wierd. but (i read this somewhere) even God has autistic

moments, because even the planets spin.

ROTFL! You're going to fit RIGHT in here.

> you know, except for me,

Well of COURSE not YOU!

's teacher is SUPER about the SI stuff too. We are very lucky. He

has a lot of needs in that area.

He hasn't puked on her but they have had a few Epic Battles Of Diaper

Changing and she had to go home to shower and change afterwards. That

reminds me I have a new trick for that I should share with her...although he

usually saves those treats for me!

You have no idea how long I looked at that J: trying to turn it into some

kind of smiley face and wondering if you got me confused with Jacquie &

were offering me lithium.

Hi Kris!!!

I have a sister named who goes by Kris. :-)

You are going to fit in well with this group - hope you can handle the

onslaught of e-mail. I have a really hard time with that part of it and

can't always keep up, but I love these people - they are my lifeline

without knowing it.

It's going to be great to have your perspective as a Mom with a child on

the Spectrum and being an Early Intervention teacher as well. How did

you do with the whole diagnosis thing, after already being experienced

with it in class? Was it hard to accept? It sounds like he has been

diagnosed very young, so you probably knew what you were dealing with

beforehand. Unlike me who had no idea what the Autism Spectrum was nor

that her child had been exhibiting many signs of it for years. I just

thought all of his quirks, were, well, just that - quirks! I have a

very well documented video timeline of his progression with it because

it was all so " cute " ! ;-)

Anyway, nice to meet you!

Karin in Texas,

married to Gino since 1985 - he isn't really a computer geek, but he

aspires to be one ;-)

Mom to Jakob (Jake) 3 1/2 medically diagnosed 3 mos ago as PDD with

Autistic Tendencies; school calls it Autism - mild to moderate range -

now in PPCD class (pre-school program for children with disabilities as

it's known here in Texas); I call it ASR (Autism Spectrum Rollercoaster)

Midwife by profession

Hi Kris, welcome to a great group.

My name is Debbie. I'm currently a SAHM with 29 month old boy/girl

twins. My son Jordan was diagnosed with autism in July. My daughter

is most definitely NT. I'm married to a great man, Rick, who

somehow manages to put up with all of us and actually likes doing it.

LOL We live outside Cleveland, OH ... been here for about 1.5 years

now. Before that we lived in Cincinnati. But I'm originally from New

Jersey.

I'm the geeky one of the family. Jordan comes by his autistic-ness

naturally I guess. Now that I know what autism is ... it explains A LOT

about me, lol. I'm pretty sure I'm borderline aspergers. Jordan and I

are happiest when we're in a quiet corner at a party. My husband and

are happiest when they are out mingling and schmoozing.

Anyway, welcome to a great group. I lurk a lot here, but just reading

other people's challenges and triumphs makes me feel not so alone in all

of this.

Debbie

Hello! New to group

Hi, I'm Kris, and I have heard so many wonderful things about this

group! My best friend is also a member. I can't wait to talk

to you all! Ok, a little about us. I'm Kris, I'm a special

education teacher. I teach little ones and do early intervention.

My husband Jim is a computer geek (more on that later lol). My son

is 4 and NT, and (age 2) has ASD. I also have bi-polar

disorder, but thanks to the lithium I've been able to stay out of

jail. Just kidding, (about the jail part, not the lithium). We say

's ASD because of Jim being such a computer geek (and I mean

that very lovingly). Oh, and if any of you have students in my

class, please don't be afraid. Being crazy makes you a great

teacher. LOL. Nice to meet you all, and I want my own copy of the

Windmill story, and then after I want to know what happens next!

BTW: my husband is originally from Tallahassee, and we know the area

very well. We probably even know the alligator man lol. Take care,

I'll shut up now! I'm just so excited to be here! Kris
