Guest guest
Had an appt. with doc this morn (I do need someone for scripts for meds and follow up scans to check for residual thyroid cancer tissue) some of his ideas: 1. severe hypothyroid can cause low RBC and low ferritin, and with my TSH of 49 and Free t3 of 2.5 I am SEVERELY hypothyroid. That by increasing my thyroid meds my low iron will correct itself. 2. To add t4 in the form of 100 mcg. levothyroxine. I said to him I felt awful on it, terrible tummyaches. He insisted my body needs the t4. I said, if that's the case, we might as well go to (old) Armour. He says ok. Take 2 grains in the morn and 2 grains in the afternoon. 3. I said I could not tolerate the dhea, so he said in people who have insuffient cortisol, dhea supplements are not tolerated, so he suspects I need a whole lot more of HC. 4. He says to increase my cortef by 2.5 at each dose. It will help my body tolerate thyroid meds and dhea. He thinks 35 mg. a day is not cutting it, based on my symptoms. 5. Says if I feel WORSE on dhea I should add 2.5 cortef to each cortef dose. Keep adding 2.5 until I don't have ill effects from dhea. 6. says if i want I can increase fludro to 1/2 tablet twice a day. He says it's standard dose. He spoke nothing of potassium, checking electolytes, etc. So I will take care of that with my internist, getting my electrolytes tested every two weeks. 7. He totally forgot about my low sex hormones. and I forgot to raise the topic. Not sure how important it is to email him about it at this point, specifically about adding testosterone. 8.Thank you so much for your input! Guest guest
Thank you, Val! What do you think of his rec to increase cortef? And to add t4 ? I'm so confused now. Can you get a white coat and I'll stick to one opinion I got a new notebook where i will start recording all my daily symptoms cuz i can't seem to remember how long i've had this shakiness. So there seems to be a few opinons as to how to stop the shakiness:1. increase cortef, 2. increase fludro, 3. add t4, and increase t3 on top of increased cortef. AAARRGGHHH I am SO sick of hearing this but I have heard ot from enough doctors that ot must be something they read or learn in med school. Sure if ferriitn is in the 60's oyu probably can bring it up wiht just taking thyroid but ferritin lower than 50 you wil NOT be able to tolerate enough thyroid to be able to bring ferritin up on it;s own. Guest guest
Birddy, i don't recall not liking what you've posted. Don't confuse your identity I sat and processed what he had told me and I trashed most of it. I realized how ridiculous some of the ideas were.... I have posted on the adrenal board, as per your advice. It's hard to jump around on two boards. so I usually stick with one. When my rt3 cleared (or I thought it did) I came back onto this board, but hey, i'll do a little jumpin around and that'll be my exercise for the day To: RT3_T3 Sent: Tue, January 5, 2010 1:25:31 PMSubject: Re: Doc says to add T4 and increase Cortef I know you don't like hearing from me but Miriam most of these questions you're posting on RT3 are not RT3 question but rather adrenal questions. You need to take them back to the adrenal list so people with adrenal experience can help you. By the way your doctor is off on so many things I wouldn't even know where to being. Yeah, often one finds it hard to tolerate the very things they are low in. Maybe because the body hasn't had them for a very long time, I don't know. But I DO know that you do NOT just take more and more HC so you can tolerate DHEA. It won't work and you will also end up on way too much HC. You ned to graph temps to see if you need HC, not go up because you aren't tolerating DHEA. Sorry, but that idea of his is the stupidist and most irrespsonsible thing I think I have ever heard a doc say.

Guest guest
Thanks! Is there a doc who agrees with this? I need a doc to stay on top of my thyroid cancer follow-up, being that it was a stage 3. And I do need a doc who can agre with our way and still be willing to order the nuclear scanning.
