After being on anti-depressants for a few months a friend mentioned that I should have my thyroid checked(my doc. never thought to check). After I mentioned to my doc. that I wanted my thyroid checked sure enough the results came back that I was hypothyroid. Well it's been a year now...and I'm still not back to my normal self. My doc. is really busy and did not really provide much info or support. Needless to say I changed doctors and went in for a full examination and blood work last week. I should get the results back some time this week. At the moment I am taking 0.1mg Levothyroxine sodium. What kind of questions should I be asking my doctor and what steps should I be taking to improve my health...I'm married with 2 kids and very frustrated with myself. I think what is bothering me the most is that I feel like of lost all control...moody, > tired and can't seem to get my weight under control...help...I'll appreciate any info. you can provide. > > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Your body taesk time to adjust to the meds..so given your symptoms you should expect this doctor to increase your Synthroid and run new labs in 6 weeks..then either another increase or assuming you are stable no increase and labs again in 6 weeks to make sure you maintain levels. With running proper labs.. TSH, Free 4 and Free 3 you can tell if other issues also need to be corrected. Most of the symptoms you list are from being hypothyroid..so obviously you have not hit your level yet. Also you say you are hypo but has the doctor run any tests as to why you are hypo? Finding out why is just as importnant as it will effect treatment protocol.. Kats3boys

Guest guest
Hi , Well, Lets start with a bunch of questions.... How do you take your Synthroid? Be sure to take it at least one hour before you eat and drink only enough to swallow the pill...And at least 3 to 4 hours after your last meal and at least one hour before you eat your next meal. Synthroid needs the full strength of the stomach acids to break apart the Synthroid combination of the Thyroid hormone molecules and the sodium molecules. Next, when you get your blood workup results would you mind posting the results for the TSH, the Free T4 and the Free T3 along with the lab ranges (these are the numbers that are off to the right of the number for the test. They usually are a range..ie.. 10-35 ..or something like that) Next, providing you have the time with 2 kids its hard to find it sometimes...might I suggest that you keep a record of your arising basal temperature for at least a week, average it out and let us know what it is? Here is a web site that explains the arising basal temp process better than I can, along with charts to help you chart. http://www.becomehealthynow.com/attachments/barnes_basal_temp.pdf Next, what other meds and vitamins and oils do you currently take? Did you ever get a diagnosis from your previous doc? Well thats a start....
