Guest guest
It just so happens that I have 4 ounces brazil nuts in the house right now! As a general rule of thumb, and depending on the size of each brazil nut, I'd say approximately 10 brazil nuts per ounce (medium/small ones). There were 42 in my last pack. I've been eating a 4 oz pack over a week, and I make that about 450 mcg selenium per day, unless my math is way off. I have 25 mcg in my multivit so hopefully I'm all set. Any advance on 10? Katy > > I think someone here was talking about Brazil nuts and how many to eat per day. > I have no idea how many brazil nuts are in 1 oz, but supposedly there are 839 mcg of Selenium in one ounce. If anyone has a food scale, and also eats brazil nuts, could you weigh them and tell us how much is in 1 oz (839mcg selenium) or even 1/2 oz(420mcg selenium) or 1/4 oz (210 mcg selenium). This way we can figure out approximately how much selenium is in each brazil nut. By the way there is lots of other good stuff in them too. > > I got this info here: > http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/foods_view/1,1523,115,00.html > > Chrissie >
Guest guest
Ok. I did the math another way. I bought a lb of Brazil nuts at Trader Joe's and counted them - approx 180 nuts/lb. So, (approx) selenium = 1 oz = 12 nuts = 839mcg 1/2 oz = 6 nuts = 420 mcg 1/4 oz = 3 nuts = 210 mcg 1 nut = 70 mcg (remember these are approx) Chrissie Brazil nuts and Selenium I think someone here was talking about Brazil nuts and how many to eat per day. Guest guest
OK - now that we have arrived at a consensus on the amount of selenium in Brazil nuts, can anybody remind me how much selenium is recommended to kickstart the conversion of T4 to T3? Is there a known amount, or is it just " plenty " ? As I am a bit of a details person (sorry!), let me ask a few more questions on this. Is it important to take your selenium spread over a day, or would all at once in the day be acceptable? Perhaps it would be good to take it about the same time as your hormones? Is selenium stored in the tissues? Does it have a known half-life in the body? I may even think of some more questions later! ;¬) Katy > > Ok. I did the math another way.
