Guest guest
Hi, Interesting you speak of stretching tendons, ligaments, muscles etc........... This is the current bane of my life........... here I sit at 54 trying ever so hard to push my new hip passed 75 degrees bent......... and it is just as you say..........painful.......... painful when one pushes, painful later that night if one succeeds and painful for several days until it gets used to the tiny bit extra one may win....... Mine hadn't bent for 35 years so is a rare case.......... but you are so right - it isn't that easy........... Actually if you have any suggestions that may help I would appreciate them as there isn't all that much info about. I do usually warm the movement a little before I try and these days mainly do it in a pool where some of the stress is relieved......... but I have a lot of hassle trying to keep the back from bending instead....... getting angles that just stretch the hip bits is interesting......... My physio has only suggested flexing against steps but I don't find that helps much..........it has been better to crouch in the pool and do Russian Cossack type movements..... every tiny bit of a degree seems very hard won......... BUT hey any tiny bit is better than where it was straight...........smile. I think they must put quite a bit back around the hip joint as with virtually no muscle stock at all as a starting point I have never looked like dislocating.......... I spent 6 weeks non weight bearing on crutches because I had a bone graft in order to lessen how he cut things up in my case. He actually cut the bit off the top of the femur where the ligaments attach and put it back on with the graft.......... He had to chip the bones apart so I guess needed more space than normal.........I then started walking tentatively on it still with the crutches and ditched them pretty quickly because they were killing my shoulder...... I never really used a cane as it interfered with my attempting to find my balance and seemed to make matters worse. I am now walking pretty normal though I feel that the bending range if interfering a little with the gait........
