Guest guest
No, not really; a child can be placed at any time the school has openings. Our oldest son was placed in Baudhuin a few months after the school year started (back in 06). A friend of ours got placement in the summer, at the start of the extended school year. Baudhuin is an amazing experience, and our oldest son flourished in their program, but that doesn't mean is the only option. Our youngest, who was recently diagnosed PDD-NOS, was offered placement at the ESE preschool in our local elementary school. We decided to try it, since our oldest, who graduated from Baudhuin last May, would be attending the same school. We have been pleasantly surprised; the ESE team is great! The teachers are caring, dedicated, AND accessible; the autism coach is child/family oriented. We are extremely pleased. Do your research, see how the program in your local school works, and others in the area. Baudhuin might be 'the' standard, but that doesn't mean there are no other options out there. Also, it is not unusual to start in one program and then get the space in Baudhuin. > > > I was under the impression they only take new students at the beginning of the school year. > > Heifferon > > > > > > To: sList > From: yane_carlos@... > Date: Thu, 22 Oct 2009 14:02:12 +0000 > Subject: Help !!!! Guest guest
They actually take children at any time of the year if there is space available. My son started in October because there was still space. Although, I know they are full at the moment, you can call Carla Hall who is the ESE specialist, and she can put you on a wait list, if anyone moves or decides to leave. Express to her how interested you are in having your son placed there. Also, if there is not a chance to get him in during the school year another alternative is to start in ESY, in the summer. Guest guest
You would think that the school district should offer the same program in their schools that Baudhuin has. Guest guest
My son got seven weeks last summer, the first time ever, in the past he was given five weeks. They had the four day week, like the other schools this year, but offered a camp of sorts on the Fridays 'off' (for a fee). Guest guest
I'm not really sure if it would be legal for Baudhuin to receive funds for esy and offer more weeks than the school district. I'm wondering if it would be a violation for the school district to fund sending a child to a private school for more than 4 weeks when the most they offer is 4 weeks. It sounds like a violaton of the FAPE rule. Heifferon To: sList From: amazonapr2000@...Date: Fri, 23 Oct 2009 19:44:26 +0000Subject: Re: Help !!!! Guest guest
Yes, some of the children got six weeks. These were 4 day weeks like at any other ESY program, they did offer at a Friday camp for a fee because many parents complained they did not find any childcare for the Fridays only.
