Guest guest
If you have her evaluated again, have them look for her 'use' of language, rather than a problem with her speech. This is 's problem area. Also, she should have her fine motor skills assessed. These are the two areas I can think of that she might benefit from at that age, along with work on socialization. Guest guest
I am almost certain that you couldnt get a dx of aspergers for a 3 yr old. But have her evaluated again. At least I would. And try taking her to any social group. Maybe a tumle class or something like tap or ballet. Anything will help and help you see if she has deficits in other areas you might not be that aware of at home. Or she might just show you how great she is doing. Jacquie H opinions advice???? You all know my 2 boys are on the spectrum and most of you have probably heard me talk about my concerns with set. We are 99.99% certain that she is also an aspie. Now we took her for an eval when she was 2 1/2 and I was very dismayed in that the people on the eval team really did not listen to my concerns and downplayed everything I told them. We have been through this twice before and we know what we are seeing. This is my question... Would I be able to get an AS dx on her at age 3? And since I don't intend on putting her in ABA (I don't feel that it would benefit her Trevayne is in ABA however but set doesn't seem a candidate for it). Now that she is able to hear, her verbal abilities are " normal " so she was dropped from speech. She doesn't care much for her peers but right now there is not an opportunity for a social group for her. She could maybe get OT if she was dx. But all in all there aren't many services that would be offered to her at this point. Sooo should I go somewhere else and have her evaled again or do you think it would be a waste of my time at this point in her life? Sooo should > I go somewhere else and have her evaled again or do you think it > would be a waste of my time at this point in her life? CHRIS You might try for an OT & PT eval(s) & see if you can get her anything just based on that. We went with a full eval for Gabe but we could easily have stopped with his speech eval & gotten him the ST he needs that way. The earliest I have heard of an AS dx was 4, and that child had previously been dx'd with autism. His verbal skills had improved so much he did not qualify for the autism dx anymore. But if there's someone very very good in your area and if you think getting the dx would be worthwhile, it doesn't hurt to get the eval. At the worst they'll tell you she's fine, and that's not really so awful, is it? (You could ask them about saying " Autistic Spectrum Disorder " instead of AS to qualify her for more services.) Good luck. -Sara.

Guest guest
When I went to the last eval I was so certain that I would come away with a dx but I didn't. Now that should be a happy thing but I KNOW that set is not NT. The psychologist completely disregarded what I said she cut me off when I was speaking. Anyway I was/am very discouraged by that experience when I KNOW I just KNOW that she is on the spectrum. I believe she is AS but Sully wasn't dx until he was 5 because well that is what happens a lot with AS. I really have no instincts here. Other than I know what I know. Maybe that should be enough for now... CHRIS You should do what you think is best for set. Follow your instincts. (((Chris))) Sissi
