Guest guest
do you mean the system of blood test ? usually docs wait for you to feel like dirt and run a tsh test and sometimes a t4 and if they're really really 'enlightened' a t3. the age varries. some are diagnosed as children others aren't diagnosed properly until they're 90. it just depends on the doctor's 'check list' (things they'll automatically check whenever you feel sick and the patient's willingness to fight with them to get more help or seek other treatments. i hope this helps. andrea Re: New to group...Thanks! Thanks, !I do have a question. What is the common age of a diagnosis ofthyroid...hypo or hyper. And what do you think is the common age ofsystems? I am pretty aware of the systems, but wonder what theaverage age is. I am 34.

Guest guest
People of any age can start showing problems with thyroid gland function...from infant to senior citizen. It all depends on when it's spotted, how good the doc is, or how persistent the patient is in finding out what is wrong.... Newborns in the US are now supposed to be screened for thyroid function at birth. I was diagnosed in my early thirties...but looking back, found that I had symptoms that were showing up at puberty, which for me was age 9. Years after diagnosis I find that my issue was genetic... if docs had been on the ball more I would have been caught sooner and not had the RAI... in my case my treatment could very well have been block/retrain of the gland and then monitoring in case it went hyper or hypo after that. I have a genetic defect in my TSH receptors, not at all common. Guest guest
Armed and dangerous!!! LOVE it! I'm learning stuff new all the time.... it's SO beneficial to everyone here for us to share our stories.. it can be the simplest little thing that makes our brains CLICK and find the answer for ourselves.... It was one simple little comment that got me to change the dosing of my thyroid, that one simple change made my chronic pain go away over night, literally... from just one sentence..... Don't anyone ever be afraid to share an experience they've been through or ask a question that has come to mind... we have hundreds of brains here, our own bio-super computer, to pool together to take all this data and make sense out of it.....
