My sister had endocarditis a few years ago. she had the hardest time

convincing anyone that she was sick. they told her it was the flu and

anxiety. Well she ended up blowing her Mitral Valve and having to

have a mechanical valve put in. Then after recovering from that

surgery the sturnum bone was infected from the first operation and

she had to get opened up again. Luckily the bone was not deteriated

so they cleaned it up and sewed her back up. She was on Antibiotics

for a long time after the surgery.

From what I remember her heart rate was up with the endocarditis and

she felt like she had the flu. But I do not know all her symptoms.

She went to a family doctor and went to ER and no one would listen.

She researched on her own and told the er doctor what she had found

out and finally this doctor took her seriously and did an echo. She

had to go to a infectious medicine specialist, they had her in the

hospital for a week or so and then she had to have someone come to

the house and put the antibiotic interveniously for like 12 weeks. I

could ask her more questions if you would like. she said she has

read several books on it and that in many cases it is hereditery (the

prolapsed mitral valve). They kept telling her that her dental

cleaning a few weeks before had nothing to do with it. But I do not

believe that. I think they were all just covering their butt.

Hope this helps. nne

Misty I have hashi and my pulse is consistently in the 90 bpm range. The only person who ever commented on how high it was, was an athletic trainer who was teaching me how to use some machines at a health club a few months ago. For what its worth - Im 41. I am on BP meds...have been since before the hashi diagnosis which came this last May. Before getting on thyroid meds, I would run low grade fevers on a weekly basis. Since taking synthroid, that seems to have resolved . I have had some strange and what I feel are scary heart flips. Infrequent but alarming. It starts out of no where...heart starts racing t....and the feeling like it is missing beats or trying to get back into rythm. I get light headed and find it difficult to breath. I try very very hard not to panic as this event can

last up to 10 minutes. I have had this happen to me before. 20 years ago when I was told I had MVP I presented with similar heart 'skipping" feelings but it never lasted long I eventually out grew it. I had an echo done in 2000 and was told I did not have MVP. I had another a month or so ago and the doctor asked if I had been hospitalized in the last 6 years for any reason. Jokingly asked if I have picked up an intervenous drug habit recently. THen told me I had some "thickening " to a valve or perhaps he said valves - plural. I was so shocked and scared, I really heard little after that. I have an appt with a cardiologist on the 27th. I have never heard of endocarditis until reading your post and recognizing myself in it. I guess I will do a bit of reading. In the mean time...I will hold your hand

it you will hold mine..... I'm scared but I have come way to far to take this news laying down! Best always P Hi all-I have a few new symptoms and I am wondering if I mayhave endocarditis? Hi P, I know exactly where you're coming from. I don't know if it helps but for me it just seems like my body has been abused so much by misdiagnosis, heavy medication, alcoholism (in recovery), the fact that I'm a total clutz so I'm always banging myself up. I take my life into my hands everytime I put on a pair of high heels. (My mother has this green plastic knife in her kitchen and that's the only one I'm allowed to use.....:)) Anyhow I when I started looking back at how sick I was for so long (most of my life) and also remember how many people told me it was all in my head. I got this from both family and doctors. I could have had a stroke and somebody would tell me "Oh its just in your head, there's not anything wrong with you except you feel a little discomfort. Stop complaining. (Meanwhile one side of my body is paralyzed and I'm drooling and fall into a plate of food. (them) "Stop playing with your food!!, Sit up, stop draging your arm

and leg, that drooling is grosse, if you don't straighten up you can go straight to bed!!!". I know that there were times I think I was scared. But most of the time I wasn't because I had been convinced it was all in my head so there must be nothing wrong. Now that this thyroid problem has been identified, I was actually relieved. It's not like I want to be sick, I was just glad there is an explanation for why I'm always sick, that it's not all in my head. When something is wrong it can be fixed. Plus I have been sick so many times and I have banged myself up so much due to my lack of grace and coordination and I have had only two bones broken, alot. My pinkey toes. I'm always walking into crap barefooted. I have had some major illnesses in the past, including a seizure from alcohol withdrawl. So I'm thinking if all of that stuff hasn't killed me, then hell, I could

probably survive a nuclear attack. Now the idea of being in pain did scare me but then I realized that pretty much all my life I've been in some kind of pain. I always got those responses like "Oh there is nothing wrong with you, you just feel a little uncomfortable..." or "you can't handle pain, you being a baby", I realized that I actually do have an extremely high tolerance for pain. I'm use to it, so now that I realized that, I'm not afraid of something that already exists. So now I see my whole experience with medical professionals and just people in general, as being exactly what it is, ridiculous and obsurd. And I respond accordingly. If I'm not happy about something, primarily stupid individuals, then EVERYBODY is going to know about it. And so far, it seems like there is plenty more ridiculous to come. I rant and rave about it and put it in its true perspective, ridiculously funny.

I don't know if that helps, but you can be rest assured you don't have to go through this alone. That's what I found out. :) starseed wrote: Misty I have hashi and my pulse is consistently in the 90 bpm range. I have hashi and my pulse is consistently in the 90 bpm range.

I try very very hard not to panic as this event can last up to 10 minutes.

In the mean time...I will hold your hand it you will hold mine.....

I'm scared but I have come way to far to take this news laying down!

Best always

Re: Has anyone had endocarditis? Please write back!

(them) "Stop playing with your food!!, Sit up, stop draging your arm and leg, that drooling is grosse, if you don't straighten up you can go straight to bed!!!".

So I'm thinking if all of that stuff hasn't killed me, then hell, I could probably survive a nuclear attack.
