Guest guest
Hi Edith: Thanks for the good wishes and also those of you who have emailed me personally. I am really looking forward to being on the other side of the surgery. I am told that even with my cane, I have an " impressive limp " . I now wake up every 2 hours at night due to pain and have noticed that the joint seems to loosen up. In the am it clicks and clunks, (and I don't have a prosthesis yet).. Best to all, in NC > Hi , > > I am going to be away for a few days and am aware that your surgery date is > approaching fast.......... Guest guest
Lois, , , and to all of those future hippies, All the best on your impending surgery. I am confident that you, too, will get your life back. It was a miracle for me. We all are in a sense guinea pigs. This is a new procedure. I think that we all weigh the risks and the benefits. And I think that it takes a lot of courage to fly in the face of (some) medical opinion. Bravo for all of you. Again, best of luck and keep us posted on your soon to be speedy recoveries! Guest guest
dear rock climbing judy, thanks for your kind note re: my 'impending surgery'. every day i am more sure that this is EXACTLY what i need to do to get my life back the best way possible. i thank the hapless medical system here (my dear o canada) for being as harried and difficult as it has been for, as pamela says, without them i would never have investigated the resurfacing or found dr. de smet (actually, it was my wonderful g.p. who first suggested it and then insisted that it and only it was the way for me to go.) i'm a little anxious, okay i'll admit it. but my boyfriend, bob, and i are going to paris first for a short (five day) visit and we're planning on seeing too much art, too much beauty and history, and eating too much good food beforehand. and afterwards, of course, there is the chocolate...... thanks again for your kind words, for every time someone wishes me well i am reminded that there is a reason to come out of the anaesthetic and learn to walk again, and that is so i can be with my friends and family, and all those who love me, and so that i can be the best and most complete citizen i can be. cheers. i WILL let you know how things went afterwards. (but will 'unplug' between now and then because us surface hippies are a talkative bunch and as much as keeping in touch is at the top of my list, coming back to a million emails that need attending to is not.......) looking forward to resuming contact. over and out. steph de smet rbhr april2 '

Guest guest
thanks, sue, will keep you posted and send your love to doc. de smet. thanks for all your posts from belgium. great to hear the 'in process' voice of one who's going through it at the time they're going through it. also, thought about staying at the stephanie hotel after you wrote about it..... just because.... well, you know, it's rare....to find... a hotel with your name on it... a thought. p.s. your comments about dr. de smet's saying the bhr cannot become more perfect just further confirms for me that he really believes in this procedure and the good it does, and THAT'S what i want in a surgeon! cheers, signing off and out. steph de smet april 2 '
