Guest guest
geez.... What a lousy doctor. Is there a list of docs we can make to not recommend? This doc should be on it! andrea Doctor's appt: It didn't work. I had all the research and info, but the PCP wouldn't even listen to one thing I had to say. Wouldn't look at any of the research...NOTHING!!! Just kept saying "I don't care", I don't care" when ever I tried to show him anything or talk to him about my thyroid levels. He says they are in the lab's "normal" range, so he won't even discuss it any further. Won't order more testing, NOTHING! I did finally get him to give me a referral to an endocrinologist, but I can't get an appointment until July 12th! I told him I was very very disappointed in him and that he should retire now because he's done. He has been cutting back and cutting back, getting ready to retire, although only in his 50s. He even offered to give me back my copay, which I accepted. I am very surprised at his reaction. I guess he really doesn't want to see patients anymore, but is just biding his time, getting money while his kids are in college. So, now I guess I will have to figure out how to self medicate until I can get to that Endocrinologist in July. I am also waiting for an appointment with the Gynocologist to check for hormones and maybe she can take care of thyroid too? My day has not gone well. Guest guest
My gyn was the one who diagnosed my thyroid problem, so I don't see why your gyn wouldn't be able to do whatever you need done. It's all endocrine related, all tied in together, so that's probably one of the best sources to use for a thyroid doctor, in my opinion. of cousre, as long as you have a doc willing to listen to you and hear you out, it doesn't matter who you see! Guest guest
Chrissie - Boy, I had a dip-sh!t endo, too, and it breaks your heart, doesn't it? You go in feeling like you are falling apart and to hear someone say " I don't care " just hurts so badly. I am really sorry this happened to you. He is dead wrong - I have had more than one medical professional use me " to make a car payment " and it is the ultimate betrayal because you feel so vulnerable going into it. Actually, only a couple of docs see things my way, but they are my lifelines. Hypothyroidism just isn't sexy, you know? There aren't celebrities speaking out about the devestation it causes and most docs only treat until your tsh is below 90 (haha) and then they chalk everything up to " hysterical woman syndrome " . This is why I am in school to be a Physician Assistant - I will never tell anyone that " you are just getting older " or " you just need to get off of the couch and quit eating junk food " or " you look fine - you must be depressed! " Again, I am sorry you had such a bad day. Persist, take care of yourself and take some deep breaths along the way. There will be better days (I had a great day today but I don't take for granted that a hellish one may be lurking..) Guest guest
This bum needs to retire... to have that kind of an attitude toward a patient... I'd be tempted to report him... think off all the folks that he's hurting... not to mention how he treated you.... I would have increased his vocabulary.. and for sure he wouldn't be getting paid!!! arrggghhhhh Definitely ask your Gynecologist if she can run the labs and maybe prescribe, I've heard of them doing it. If the thyroid hormones are off so are the sex hormones and gynecological health, it won't hurt to ask.... Guest guest
We can't put a 'trashy doc' list up... that can subject us to lawsuit about slander.... but there is nothing that says you can't say that you have a doc in 'this city' that was crap and then folks that are looking for a good doc in that city can contact you off list and you can privately discuss the docs shortcomings/malpractice/ignorance/head up buttness You just can't do it in an open forum, like a Yahoo group. Guest guest
I have an appointment with one of the docs on the "Top doc list" this Friday, and an appointment with the gyn on March 20th. Together, maybe I'll get something straightened out here. The gyns ofc said to bring whatever info, labs, etc I get from the Endo too, but said it did sound like hypothyroid, but might have some other hormones off too. Guest guest
Hi, Forgive me , I don't remember if you are in the UK or in the US... If you feel that you have a major complaint against a doctor, and you can give evidence to back you up, you can report him to the governing board of Physicans, here in the US its called the AMA. I don't know what the procedures are however I have heard of it being done. Gossimer > > I had all the research and info, but the PCP wouldn't even listen to one thing I had to say. Guest guest
I am in the US..New Jersey actually. I doubt that reporting him would do any good, as he is planning on retiring soon anyway. I will get a new PCP though. Chrissie Re: Doctor's appt: It didn't work. Hi, Forgive me , I don't remember if you are in the UK or in the US...If you feel that you have a major complaint against a doctor, and you can give evidence to back you up, you can report him to the governing board of Physicans, here in the US its called the AMA.I don't know what the procedures are however I have heard of it being done.Gossimer>> I had all the research and info, but the PCP wouldn't even listen to one thing I had to say. I did finally get him to give me a referral to an endocrinologist, but I can't get an appointment until July 12th!> > I told him I was very very disappointed in him and that he should retire now because he's done. He has been cutting back and cutting back, getting ready to retire, although only in his 50s. He even offered to give me back my copay, which I accepted. I am very surprised at his reaction. I guess he really doesn't want to see patients anymore, but is just biding his time, getting money while his kids are in college.> > So, now I guess I will have to figure out how to self medicate until I can get to that Endocrinologist in July.> > I am also waiting for an appointment with the Gynocologist to check for hormones and maybe she can take care of thyroid too?> > My day has not gone well.> > Chrissie>
