I can see why.

Un-bleeping-believable.

THANK GOD he's all right.

How are you? Is Cam back home? Did you ever start Kep on meds? I've been

thinking of you.

OMG, I am absolutely stunned...what an IDIOT how could he have done

something so insanly stupid?

Thank goodness no harm came to him, but this guy needs to be fired,

what a fool.

In the UK an escort has to travel with all children who have special

needs so that kind of thing never happens.

HUGS what a terrible shock you have had today!

F*cking idiots!

Aren't these people trained??? What would it take? A whole conversation? No!

How about seven words? " This student must be met by an aide. "

oh (((amy))) - these things should not happen!! rowan, also a runner, had a

similar incident a couple of months ago - let off the bus without an aide

present and caught running out of the school yard by a teacher. his regular

aide was off sick and the fill in thought " meeting the bus " meant standing in

the warm porch of the school chatting with other teachers and aides and watching

for rowan to come in. it is now in rowan's IEP that he be met at the door of

the bus and the bus company is not allowed to let rowan off the bus unless his

aide is waiting at the door of the bus.

the only silver lining thing i can say about this sort of incident is that i

think it is a real heads up for the school and they will hopefully take this

very seriously. this is the sort of incident teachers and principals have

nightmares about - hopefully this close call and the " what ifs " that go along

with it will ensure kep gets the attention he requires and deserves.

take care,

I need to hurt someone

Today was Kep's first day at the new school. He is now attending an AI

(autistic impaired) classroom at a regular elementary in the mornings and

going back to his other school in the afternoons.

Anyways, first day and he has a substitute bus driver. No problem, right?

Wrong. This guy had no idea that Kep was to be met at the bus by his aide,

so he just let Kep get off! Thank god we had toured the school before and

Kep became obsessed with the library. He went and harassed the librarian

for awhile and then she finally got Kep's teacher. It didn't take her very

long to figure out which class Kep belonged in. Needless to say, the rest

of the morning was a wash for Kep. I'm waiting to hear how the transition

went.

I guess I'll be calling the bus dept again. They are starting to really

dislike me. Oh well, I really dislike what happened today. You guys know

that Kep is a runner. I can't even think about the posibilities. I just

can't. I had a long discussion with his teacher this morning, and this

definitely will NOT happen again. Crap. I was worried enough about this

transition. <sigh>

UGH! Here, I'll hold them for you. Good grief. Glad that Kep was

okay and made his way to the library. I was going to call you some

days back, but I can't find your number since decided it did

not need to be where I had placed it, and now I have no voice for

however long. Sigh. Anyway, the point I was not getting to is that

I've been thinking of you and wondering how you all were doing.

HE JUST LET KEP GET OFF????? Oh, my God.

Well, that is certainly a blessing.

Well, this is a pretty serious safety issue. We all know that Kep could

have been outta there and who knows where he would have gone. Thank God for

the library.

Sorry, Amy. Can his aide meet the bus? That seems reasonable to me?

I dropped Putter off for three years. Now, at almost seven, he is riding

the bus. But Putter is not a runner. If he were let off the bus on his

own, I imagine that he would go on his own to his classroom and follow his

normal Putter pattern.

Tired, but OK.

>Is Cam back home?

Yep, and doing relatively well on the meds. Unfortunately he is out

of a job, but we'll figure something out.

>Did you ever start Kep on meds?

Yep, he is on ritalin which helps quite a bit. He was also on prozac

for a few weeks, but he stopped sleeping. It didn't matter what

time of day we gave it to him, he just wouldn't sleep. As soon as we

stopped giving it to him, he started sleeping again. We see the

psyche soon, so we'll figure out something else for the other issues.

Thanks Sara. I've been thinking about all of you guys too. Hope all

is well.

Excellent idea. It seems such an obvious thing, but I guess it is

not. I'll have to check Kep's IEP and see if that type of addendum

is needed.

They sure as hell better. Lord, after listening to me, they should

be taking it very, very seriously. It still just makes me sick to my

stomach!

Yes, I am very thankful that Kep fell in love with that library. In

fact, throughout xmas break, he referred to that school as

the " library school! "

Oh YES! They just weren't sure when the bus would get there today,

but from now on, the aide will be out there long before Kep's bus

arrives. They certainly don't want to hear from me again!
