Guest guest
Ang, I knew you would comment on that! LOL My thing is I feel it was bad for a doc to not encourage exercise. The " If it's not something she is going to keep up thing " really bugs me. I feel he should have encouraged her to get more active not just for weight loss but all the other benefits. As I have said before, I am not particularly fond of exercise but I like how it makes me feel. Meaning helping lowering blood pressure, keeping joints with arthritis from hurting as much, it prevents many diseases like osteoperosis, premature aging, even memory loss. I think if he didn't think she was going to keep it up he should have encouraged her to do so and give the reasons why. Also studies show that people who lose weight without exercise actually get fatter because they lose muscle and it makes it harder in the long run because when you lose muscle it lowers your metabolism. There are just too many reasons to exercise and I feel it was irresponsible of a doc to say she didn't have to. I feel it is that important. Gena > > > > exercise is important but i htink the point the doctor was trying > to > > > make is if she isn't active now and isn't going to maintain being > > > active changing her eating and keeping that will lose weight > slowly, > > > but if she exercises loses a bunch and stops exercising all the > > > weight will come back. so i think in essence the point was don't > do > > > anything you won't maintain doing. > > Now I've been busy in the bouncers section so have mostly skimmed and > don't know the whole scoop on this thread - and I know NO ONE > probably agrees, but the above statement - that's the way I see it > too. That's why for years I flat out refused to exersice. You know me well :-) I agree with you though - he should have said any movement at all - any thing you can do - do it. > Also studies > show that people who lose weight without exercise actually get fatter > because they lose muscle and it makes it harder in the long run > because when you lose muscle it lowers your metabolism. ....That's a suprising thing with me. Although I " only lost weight " , i.e. didnt' exersice, I have more muscle now than I ever have. I'm certainly not fit or completely toned - but working on it. I don't look at what I do or call it 'exersice' - I think I'm still allergic to that word. But my goal is to be able to tone all my muscles and feel firm and strong again.
