Guest guest
Meagan, So glad to hear you are finding some answers. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding resources and info Re: Help!!! Wendi, Thank you, thank you, thank you for the link to motherlove!!! For the first time, I read there that low iron levels can cause problems in milk supply. It's taken nine weeks, two visits with a lactation consultant and dozens of websites to figure it out, but I think that might be the key. I've been anemic my whole pregnancy, and I stopped taking my iron pills after the baby was born, figuring that it didn't matter any more. So the site is great, and they have an iron supplement that I'm ordering along with the More Milk formula. Thanks to everyone else for their help and suggestions, too. Meagan .. Guest guest
Hi, I have a little 4 yo guy dx autism, who is well into the diet. However, I am seeing some awful behaviors such as biting, teeth grinding, no pain sensitivity, extra noise making, throwing himself on the ground, not sleeping well, outbursts of anger mixed with maniacal giggling. Basically it's all heightened sensory stuff. He's even walking highewr on his toes than he already does! I am not really sure what to do at this point. His diet is: Homemade yogurt (cow's milk) sweetened with honey Applesauce (unsweetened MOTTS) Chicken rolled in egg, pecan and cooked in coconut oil almond muffins Welch's white grape juice 50-50 Sugar free bacon (occasional) Pear sauce There have been NO deviations from this list. There are some moments where I am thinking he's doing the die-off thing. His BM's smell awful, and switch back and forth from brown and yellow, and the nuts are not digested. He's also waking up with either medicine-smelling breathe or chicken smelling breathe, and he has been extremely thirsty (always manding for juice). He's been soaked almost every morning. He is on no supplements yet, and I am still searching for a proper toothpaste. Looking for some encouragement, Dana
Guest guest
Dana, From the list of foods you gave, I would recommend removing the cow milk based yogurt and the almonds. The store-bought applesauce needs to be replaced with homemade. Store-bought products are typically not allowed on SCD. Given the symptoms you listed, I would make the applesauce using golden delicious apples because they are low in phenols compared to the other types. Almonds are very high in phenols and oftentimes are a problem for ASD kids. (That's one big reason we called the website PEACANbread. Most ASD kids tolerate pecans, whereas many did not tolerate almonds.) Try removing the bacon if it has nitrates in it. Those can be a problem for some ASD kids as well. You may be able to find an all natural bacon with no sugar in it at a Health food store nearby or you can order it. I know that grapes are high in phenols as well, but I am unsure how highly phenolic the white grape juice is. Try pineapple juice instead. If you can make these changes for a few days, please do and then write us back to let us know how things are going so we can continue to help you. Guest guest
Dana, I'm not an expert. Just a Mom like you with an ASD boy. Maybe others on this list can comment, but the first thing that jumps out at me is the cow's milk yogurt. A lot of kids on the spectrum can't tolerate cow's yogurt. Many like my son couldn't even tolerate goat yogurt. We have to make our yogurt from nut milk. When testing the goat yogurt 1/8 teaspoon given every other day caused regression in my son. We tried introducing it twice and both times he had difficulty with sleep and overall behavior got worse. Apples is another food that is high in phenols. It is scd legal, but again your child may not tolerate it and it has to be home made. It sounds like your son has yeast & bacteria and can't tolerate cow yogurt. Can you get his stool tested to see what you may be dealing with? Do you have access to a Dr. who treats children with autism? I would get rid of the white grape juice. I know it is SCD legal, but it is extra sugar. Will your guy eat any vegetables like squash or something green sauteed in garlic with oil or ghee?
