Guest guest
Hi , It sounds like this has just been a bad summer for earmolds all around. is on her ~6th set since May (I lost count after a while). I know the company our audi uses has had an unusual number of remakes this summer, but has been the worst. 's aids were pretty much maxed out because she lost a lot of hearing last year. The Audi cut back on the amplification by 3 Db, which helped. I guess she has seen this before and although 3 Db shouldn't adversely affect what can hear, it does help with the feed back. One other thing we noticed (and you probably already know this) is that the earmolds really need to be seated all the way in for them to seal - just a little out and they squeal like mad. We've never had fitting where the HAs squealed all the time, but we went through a bad time where even smiling caused it. We just got a new mold in yesterday (haven't tried it yet) that was triple dipped. Our audi also tried a new, more firm material for taking the impressions and verified that there were marks on the impression from 's skin to ensure it wasn't an impression problem. One thing I feel I should caution you about - I saw a post suggestion vaseline instead of the firming gel. I can't say whether that would work or not, but you should check with your audi. For a long time we used baby oil to slide 's aids in - we couldn't see an issue with this - it was OKed by her 1st audi and pediatrician, but her new audi said the ENTs she works with recommend against using that - I can't remember exactly why. I'm now really cautious now what I use for her earmolds. I wish I could offer you more advice - one last thing our audi told me is this is an unusual year - larger than usual children's growth spurts accoridng to her pediatrician. I don't think we can attribute all of our issues to that, and it doesn't sound like you can either, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I hope you get everything straightened out. I know exactly the frustration you're going through. We haven't quite figured out what's going on yet either. Cheryl > We can't get 's hearing aid ear ro fit an earmold!!
