Guest guest
Mini meal eating is good for hypos.... it allows our bodies steady and consistent energy levels for good conversion... It also helps to boost metabolism and allows our bodies to use the food as an energy source and not a source for fat. It is possible for a person to starve themselves fat..... it has to do with how metabolism slows due to irregular eating habits or from insufficient calorie intake... if you don't eat enough the body goes into starvation mode. At that state it's first priority is to turn what you eat into fat, not energy, so the less you eat the more fat your body makes. It's also possible to damage your thyroid from not eating correctly. If your gland is not healthy to begin with, poor eating habits, specifically not eating until late in the day, further stresses both the thyroid and adrenal glands.... All that is true. But changing your way of eating and cutting out part of a food group is not going to fix a damaged gland.. that part I don't agree with. The thing with the juice... read the labels... what you need to avoid is high fructose corn syrup..... Read all your labels.... HFCS, soy, artificial sweeteners... all that stuff is bad.... with our bodies working hard to function in a healthy manner, they don't need to deal with food additives that make it harder for them..... Meds for life.... okay... this is a point of view thing.... If you delay starting on the replacement hormone... you delay starting taking pills every day.... at what point will delaying the start of taking the pills outweigh the deterioration of body function? With Hashi's you're gonna continue to cycle and the gland is gonna die, how you eat won't change that... how you help your body with replacement hormone will... If I remember right, your numbers are already showing low... you already have symptoms showing that your body knows you are low.... Aren't you already taking pills everyday? I've had to wrap my brain around this... because of the damage done to my body by stupid, ignorant docs, I have to dose my thyroid six or seven times a day... to feel okay.... to mess around with timing I'm dealing with not being able to sleep deeply at night, if I can even get to sleep, all over body pain, and poor function during the day... slow to move, no ambition, falling asleep..... So..... if taking replacement hormone allows the body to be able to function, allows you to have a life.... is starting the replacement hormone BEFORE things get worse a bad idea? As someone that has a sixteen compartment daily pill box and multi-doses EVERYTHING and eats between 5 and 7 mini meals a day... I'd rather do all the weird stuff that I do, and have now for a few years... then to be a walking dead person. Slow the destruction of the gland.... hmmmmm isn't that the same as saying that you get to continue to slide down hill, slower, for a longer period of time, with things steadily getting worse, only slower, so as to be harder to notice what is causing it..... until you end up so miserable and rotten that the doc finally gives in and gives you the replacement? Isn't that what happened to me... when they underdosed me for a decade after my RAI... calling all my symptoms a bunch of BS that I was dreaming up to cover for sitting on the couch eating bon bons and watching soaps all day.. and when I couldn't walk anymore that was because of the fat that I had put on from my irresponsible behavior? A body builder that took up bon bon eating and gained two hundred pounds...... ... that life long, irreparable injury to my foot that had me on crutches.... the one that would never heal and was my fault... that healed in just a few months when I started treating myself with the correct type of replacement hormone..... So.... my thoughts... mini meal eating, good watching what is put into food and avoiding bad ingredients, good avoiding potatoes and rice... why? They are good food, just balance meals - protein, starch, fat - every meal, starting with breakfast. No piling a mountain of butter or sour cream on the taters! Holding off on replacement hormone for the sake of not taking pills now? Ummmmm why wait until you wish you were dead before doing something??? There is even a math calculation thingy that you can use to determine how to set up your meals..... Did you know that when you are losing weight that you actually have to increase your calories periodically after your weight loss or you will stop losing? For me, it's 25 calories per day every three to four weeks. I'll shut up now.... Guest guest
Yeah it does and Topper and I had discussed this in December and I was thinking of doing it but she didn't tell me I had to lose the rice or the taters and I liked her idea he is telling me no tatters or Rice now potatoes I can maybe live without but MY RICE there is no way I love rice. And some juices i can understand but all of them. I do drink alot of water and sometimes a little juice is good for you as long as you know what your drinking Tina Teague wrote: It sounds like your doc is one that might understand what he's talking about. It's very common in people trying to lose weight that they will skip meals and it will ruin their bodies because of it and shut down their metabolism because they go into a starvation mode then when they get food they don't want to process it so quickly because your body doesn't know when it will eat again. Your doc's plan for your diet sounds really good. good luck. andrea Topper my doc and I discussed your idea. Guest guest
Fitday, as I played with it... sometimes had calorie counts too low... works good for folks with a healthier body... By too low.. I mean it's suggested calories per day. If we drop down too far it affects our conversion rate and drops our metabolism.. that's why hypos can eat so little yet still gain.... We need to calculate how many calories we need to maintain nutrition and stimulate metabolic rate... Fascinating when you dig into it... cuz it's not the same for us as it is for 'normal' folks. But it does give you a good set of tools to work with.. you can punch in what you are eating and get a listing of it's nutritional and calorie contact... I used their data base when I sat down with my recipes and started figuring stuff out.... Thanks for bringing it up, Fitday... See? All our brains together are able to keep track of this stuff..... hehehehehe Hey.. refresh my brain, if you know, ... you can use their database and info online for free... or buy the disk to set it up on your own computer to do offline..... am I remembering that right??? I know OM Bev used it a lot... she's the one that got me going there, that's been.... oh gosh... over two years ago.... I should wander over and see what's all changed! Guest guest
I think you can get the cd... I'll have to check into that. It's been a while since I checked in to. My problem is that soooo many foods now days contain soy. I'm wondering if I should completely avoid it or just not eat it so often. I consume some type of soy every day. I'm allergic to milk, cinnamon, oregano, cilantro, yeast, strawberries, cucumber, mixed beans (yet soy gives me no reaction that I can tell) and several other foods. All of my food is organic or natural so that helps out a lot when figuring things out however I wonder if I can still eat soy if I adjust my dosage accordingly. It's very hard for me to have a balanced diet being allergic to so many things, soy is one of the staples in vegan (I might as well be vegan due to no milk lol) foods. hmm.... any ideas?? Guest guest
here's a hint for those of you craving fried french fries... you can drizzle bakes fries (pre oven) with olive oil or another oil you have and coat them well, then they will taste deep fried but they won't have all the grease. it works great because then you can season them with garlic & onion powder or something else and you don't need salt. also for those of you trying to avoid salt, something i do now is any time i want salt on something i'll use sea salt (iodized just doesn't taste right for some reason to me) or i'll use vinegar which tastes salty but isn't. it's great on said fries. andrea Re: Topper my doc and I discussed your idea. Guest guest
here's a question for you topper & everyone: right now i weigh 172.8 lbs (afternoon dr's visit a few days ago) at the beginning of may i weighed a few ounces shy of 200lbs. that's a 27 lb or so loss. i am 5'4 and come from irish, german, cherokee stock however i look incredibly irish. i am not stocky however i have a sturdy frame (think jewel or renee zelwegger ) i personally think all i can lose is 10 lbs or so more. right now you can see my collar bones, upper ribs, and i have a line from my breast bone to my pubic line for my abs... by all standards i am still overweight but i do feel healthy at this weight... i would like to be a little thinner to help against puffy days and to tone up but other than that i am happy with how i look. even when i was almost 200 i still looked like i wasn't and the only times i look heavy are when my face is swollen. so, what should my ideal weight be? i know the 125lb goal is set by insurance companies and that most women in america on average is size 12, 145-160lbs. do you think docs should take genetics into account? and why did they ever stop?? they take it into account for heart disease, cholesterol, diabetes, etc. but not framing. what do you all think of that??? andrea

Guest guest
I'm 5'8, definitely carry the German and Danish in us - mom has pictures of ancestors from the home lands and my body build looks like those. I think I looked my best at 180/190. I would be happy to get to 220. If more came off than that, I could live with it. At 180/190 I still had a good layer of body fat. Now, I am built big, we look like we can get behind a mule and plow 40 acres then go bear the children, make the food and clothes. I was wearing size large at 180. Up till about 4 yrs ago I was in the gym every other day, cardio up to lose weight pace, 1 to 1 and a half hours, then went did weights big time, I like those muscles. I ate well, non fat everything, no sugar, I don't like breads. In 7 yrs of that I only lost 20 lbs, put me at 250. I looked like I had muscle, toned, but still large. Just a couple weeks before all things thyroid were found in me, I signed up to swim. I want to get back in cardio health. If the lbs come off, that'a an extra benefit. I hope getting thyroid levels right with meds does effect weight loss. I hope it is my wacky thyroid that was making weight almost impossible to lose. I don't own a scale. One of the best decisions I've made, with a teenage girl in the house. So I only know my weight when I go to the doc and she wants to weigh me. A couple years ago, that was only when I went in for my annual physical. May of '04 I had lost 40 lbs from the year before. Do all that exercise and eating well, lose only 20 lbs. Do nothing and eat less well and lose 40. Go figger. I think it was my thyroid going hyper. I also started being a lot more warm, sweating. I thought it was hot flashes, doc said it could be the extra weight making me warm. No, I'd been at that weight for at least a year and the sweating/hot stuff had just started. I think it was thyroid doing hyper stuff. But I was also fatigued and my brain wasn't working good. Housework felt like a calculus test. I had the unexplained weight gain but hyper signs at the same time, diarrhea for a year and a half is the clencher for hyper. I think I cycled hyper/hypo within a day sometimes. Anyhow, I really want the weight to just come off now, like it did those 40lbs in one year (tho it might have just been months.) Then I want my doc to notice it by having me weighed so I can go, " yeh, turns out it was my thyroid. " I was in the hospital in '99 for lung blood clots that had killed lung. I had all the imaging known to humankind done to me. I realized yesterday I could probably look at one of those imagings and see how large my thyroid was, a little over 5 yrs ago. See how long ago this puppy started getting sick. jane > here's a question for you topper & everyone: > > right now i weigh 172.8 lbs (afternoon dr's visit a few days ago) at the beginning of may i weighed a few ounces shy of 200lbs. that's a 27 lb or so loss. i am 5'4 and come from irish, german, cherokee stock however i look incredibly irish. i am not stocky however i have a sturdy frame (think jewel or renee zelwegger ) i personally think all i can lose is 10 lbs or so more. right now you can see my collar bones, upper ribs, and i have a line from my breast bone to my pubic line for my abs... by all standards i am still overweight but i do feel healthy at this weight... i would like to be a little thinner to help against puffy days and to tone up but other than that i am happy with how i look. > > even when i was almost 200 i still looked like i wasn't and the only times i look heavy are when my face is swollen. so, what should my ideal weight be? i know the 125lb goal is set by insurance companies and that most women in america on average is size 12, 145-160lbs. > > do you think docs should take genetics into account? and why did they ever stop?? they take it into account for heart disease, cholesterol, diabetes, etc. but not framing. what do you all think of that??? > > andrea
Guest guest
, I make my own soda with a gadget I bought through www.sodaclubusa.com. I've used it for almost 2 years. I add carbonation to lots of things like my cold tea, fruit juice, etc. Actually, I just love club soda and I drink lots and lots of it every day. They sell soda mixes too, but I don't usually use them. Risa ---- Teague wrote: > ooooh and for those of you that love sodas but don't want the high fructose corn syrup, you can actually buy carbonated fruit juice now (in the organic section). many many varieties to choose from or you can make your own with fruit juice & club soda... really really good. it's one way i kicked drinking regular soda. > > andrea
