Listen-up is such a great place for you... Which e are you going to? We've had many interactions with the e School in Northampton MA - they are caring, wonderful folks and are great at what they do. I have two boys, both with hearing loss. My older son is Tom who's 12 and now in 6th grade. Tom (he's NOT Tommy any more!) has a severe, sensorineural loss (you'll see folks call it SNHL) in both ears and wears hearing aids. Sammy (he now wants to be called Sammy because of Sammy Sosa!) is 10 and in 4th grade. Sam has a profound SNHL and also wear hearing aids in both ears. Both our boys are mainstreamed and communicate orally. I'm so glad you found Listen-up! Take care Barbara

Guest guest
Welcome to the group! I am mom to Christian. A 24 wkr now 8 months old. We found out about his hearing loss at 4 months old and received his hearing aids at about 6 1/2 months. He's doing great with them and leaves them alone. Christian is profoundly deaf and the hearing aids don't help him, but, from my understanding, they make his ears " work " . I'm new to this group too. www.geocities.com/s_lynne_flores/Christian.html Ann Marie Mutz wrote: Hello everyone! This is my first posting on this link. Guest guest
Welcome Ann Marie. You didn't say which e you are going to, but if you are in MA, there are a bunch of us here who are in the area as well (and checking email because we're still too excited about the Red Sox to go to sleep!). My 3 year old daughter was diagnosed at birth with a severe bilateral loss and has been wearing hearing aids and doing Auditory-Verbal Therapy since she was 6 months old. Ian spoke very clearly and lip-read like a pro, so we didn't find out about his loss until very late. He is now a mainstreamed freshman in high school, and very oral. Before you know it, you WILL be the one giving out the how-to-do-it advice. Each time you you master your child's current needs ... they have the nerve to grow bigger. (grin) Their needs change at each stage, so this learning process just keeps evolving. Luckily, it does get easier for us to handle because we simply get use to it. As you are figuring out about your child's newest stage of life, you'll be offering advice to the parents who are just learing everything you've already learned. We're dealing with high school setting now, and in two years, he'll be doing the college application thing. When all this began I never ever imagined that we'd get this far. Guest guest
Thank you all for the emails that have already come in. I am going to the e in MA. We are meeting with Holly today at 1pm. I am not sure what to expect but I am hopeful. I know that they run parent support groups during the day. Are there any support groups in the afternoon/night/Saturday? I do work full time as a Guidance Counselor and with time off for appointments - it may be hard to get to the support group during the day. If there are not any support groups at those times - I will def. make it happen I will check in after the appointment today. Ann Marie wrote: Welcome to the group! I am mom to Christian. My name is Debbie and I am mom to two very active kids, and . is 5 and has a moderate sloping to severe in the highest frquencies bilateral (both ears) SNHL. She was diagnosed when she was 2 1/2. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about e and wished that we lived closer. We are in Illinois. You will experience many emotions while on this journey, all of them normal. It does get easier as time goes by, but it's hard to believe it at the time. Debbie, mom to , 5, mod/sev bilat SNHL and , 2, hearing " I'm through accepting limits, Cuz someone says they're so.
