Hi, we are thinking of switching Kristan from KetoCal to RCF

Formula. We are also trying to get Kristan to have more solid meals

and are slowly trying to eliminate any formula. I know RCF is a tube

fed formula, Kristan is not tube fed. To make it more palatable I

was thinking of adding in Stevia or pure vanilla extract. Has anyone

ever done this? Has anyone's child ever taken RCF orally?

Thanks.

Satnam, mom to Kristan, 17 months

Keto kid since August 2003

My 25 month old daughter, , drinks RCF by mouth. She is so hungry that she

will drink it as long as we put a couple of drops of liquid sweet n low in the

bottle. We used to use stevia, and it worked fine, but it is expensive. As

long as it's pretty hot, she'll drink it no problem. When the bottle gets cool,

we have to warm it back up again. We also grind up her medications and vitamins

to put in her bottles.

Re: RCF Formula--Satnam

Satnam;

RCF-based formulas smell absolutely NASTY; I apologize profusely to my daughter

any time she burps because the smell is so strong. She is g-tube fed and

honestly, I cannot imagine drinking that stuff by mouth. But there are kids who

do, bless their hearts... It's hard to think that sweetening it would improve

the taste, but I suppose it's worth a try. Maybe sweetener + vanilla would

probably help more. As I said, some kids do drink it orally. I hope their

parents will respond with tips.

We live just a couple hours south of you (North Bend, WA, 30 miles east of

Seattle). I wish we were a little closer so I could bring you a can of RCF to

try with Kristan. Then you would know if she will take it. Honestly, I think

oral feedings are more promising.
