I take HC during the day and Isocort right before bed and during the night if I

wake up with adrenaline surges. I have no problem with taking a combination of

both. I find I can take Isocort without food with no gastric problems but I have

to take HC WITH food. I've been using Isocort for about 5 years with the

addition of HC 2 years ago when Isocort was not strong enough and I was

diagnosed with s.

The only way to get an accurate ACTH stim test is to switch to dexamethasone for

a week or so before the test. This seems to be what the 's web sites

recommend. You're right, if you're on Isocort or any other form of HC or

Predisone, you won't get accurate results.

And honestly, for many patients, even the ACTH stim test is not definitive. For

me, I never was able to have the ACTH stim test, but I diligently paid for

cortisol saliva and blood tests (both Free and Total cortisol) and over time,

the trend became obvious, that my cortisol levels were dropping and dropping.

This was even before I was on Iscocort or HC.

After awhile I used the phone consult services of Dr. Neville at Clymer Healing

Center. After about a year and a half of 1000's of dollars of consult fees,

vitamins, minerals, supplements, Adrenal Cortex Drops, Dr. Neville explained

that it appeared my adrenals were simply not 'regenerating' as he would have

hoped, that my levels were simply too low to continue treatment without danger

and he recommended I find a local Dr. who would accept all the testing we had

done. I did find a Dr. who understood the whole process. I went on HC and T3

only therapy for a time, then switched to Armour.

After about 5 months on HC my morning levels of cortisol before meds was " 0 " ,

which indicated I was no longer producing any cortisol on my own during the

night. But then, it was a moot point as I had been sick for about 6 years and

was willing to be on full replacement HC. It would be nice someday to follow

Val's lead and be able to wean back off, but for now I'm simply trying to get

enough thyroid meds in me to feel human!

Warm Regards,
