Guest guest
Thanks Dawn. With similar numbers, gotta admit - was startled to see 3 Doc bands! Oy! At what age did your daughter start treatment? TJ is almost 7 months. Is there a chart or something that shows severity in relation to measurements? > Hi > > It's Dawn... sorry I haven't written back to you yet. I've been very busy with work. Guest guest
Hi Dawn, Now I remember, you live in Waukesha! I went back and read your old post. I see she was banded at 9.5 months. Just drop me a line when work settles down. > > Hi > > > > It's Dawn... sorry I haven't written back to you yet. I've been very busy with work. He > would be moderate (15mm and above is severe). Guest guest
, There is no set in stone severity chart. However, we have found the following ... <6mm too mild to treat with helmet/band (usually) 6-10 mm mild 10-15 mm moderate 15+ mm severe As for the cephalic index I usually refer to the Aetna policy chart ... Cephalic index = Head width (eu - eu) x 100 Head length (g - op) Sex Age -2SD -1SD Mean +1SD +2SD Male 16 days to 6 months 63.7 68.7 73.7 78.7 83.7 6 - 12 months 64.8 71.4 78.0 84.6 91.2 Female 16 days to 6 months 63.9 68.6 73.3 78.0 82.7 6-12 months 69.5 74.0 78.5 83.0 87.5 So in the scheme of things TJ is mild to moderate plagio (depending on area) with brachy. He has a lot going on with his headshape. I think it's good you are going to CT. His head may be a bit complicated (I don't mean to scare you). keep us posted. mom to na DOC Grad South Carolina www.thefilyaws.com zimmastiffs1 <szimmy@...> wrote: hello,I've requested his doctor assessment and measurements. Guest guest
Hi As has flagged up, it sounds like your little one has moderate plagio and severe brachy, so it will be a question of treating the both. Sometimes they make separate bands, othertimes one band does both- it depends on the holding positions apparently. You should expect to be in for the long haul, though, I would think it is unlikely that it will be fixed in just a couple of months and you may need more than one band. The good news is that any improvement in brachy measurements looks great in person, you don't need to get it perfect to make a really big difference to the look of the head. Good luck, you will be in good hands with DOC. Hannah (mum to Lucia, London, Uk) Cranio grad > > hello, > I've requested his doctor assessment and measurements. Guest guest
Hi , I am not too familiar with the plagio part, but I am familiar with the brachy part. My son 's cephalic ratio started at 101%. Not to make you nervous, but it was pretty severe. He also had some assymetry, but I don't have the paper in front of me to tell you the exact measurements for that. TJ might need to wear 2 bands though. How old is he? started at 5 months old and wore 2 bands since he grew out of the first one quickly. They first one corrected the assymetry. They didn't even start trying to correct the brachy until the head was symmetrical. He then grew out of the first band. He got a second band to work on the brachy. He went from cephalic ratio of 101% to I think it is 95%. The numbers are still high, but he looks great. I will post his pics as soon as I can. Guest guest
Hi. We go to cranial tech on Tuesday the 24th. I was wondering how they take the measurements to see about assymetry. How do they measure and what do they measure on the face. I'm nervous. We had Pt today and Cranialsacral therapy yesterday. Brielle is doing great with her range of movement and tummytime. She is still not really pushing up with her arms while on her belly. We are really working on repositioning her. Thanks, Debbie
Guest guest
Measurements are easy as pie! I just sat in a chair with Ian on my lap and our Tech used a tool (don't know what it is called) placing one end on one point (like right at his ear) then the other end on another point (like at his chin) and got a measurement. She did this for several points on his head/face. Ian didn't mind at all! We used a toy they had there to keep his attention so he wouldn't move his head too much. She also used a measuring tape to check his head size but Ian is totally used to this because he gets it at EVERY doctor we see for him (his ped, neurologist, neurosurgeon AND at CT!) Don't worry, the measurements are a breese!! Ian 7 months old 1 week in DOC band! Charlotte, NC --- In Plagiocephaly , " Deborah B " <aguinesslover@h...> wrote: > Hi. Guest guest
Debbie, no need to worry. They use a caliper that to me looks like old-fashioned ice tongs. You are probably wayyy too young to know what I'm talking about. The orthotist is so quick about the measurements Brielle won't notice a thing. They measure different aspects of the head and it's really quite interesting. Once you get your numbers there are some files you can look at that explain what they're talking about. I found a web site that had pics that showed A to B meant this, etc. Made it very easy to understand. How old is Brielle? She has torticollis? Guest guest
Hi Lynette, thanks for your response. Brielle turned 4 months on May 6th, she has mild torticollis and is doing great with range of movement. From what the cranial facial specialist and neurosurgeon said, they also felt that her plagio was mild. We are going to cranial tech, because I don't know who to trust. You can see her pictures under plagio kids, Brielle B. Did your son wear a band? How is he doing? Debbie r > > Hi. We go to cranial tech on Tuesday the 24th. Guest guest
Debbie, what a beautiful baby! Does Brielle have red/auburn hair? My little brother has red hair and I always wished I was so lucky. You took some great pictures and I can see the mild plagio. It's in the same spot we had a flat spot; Brielle's torticollis must go the same was as Nicolas' did. My boy is in his second band but he had severe measurements and we weren't able to get banded until 8.5 months. Luckily the torticollis was able to be resolved with stretches at home. We have had great success with CT in the first band and are hoping for more results with the second. I'm guessing the pediatrician has told you the flat spot will round out? And you're thinking CT will recommend a band? And you're worried how you choose between two extremes? Lynette, mom to Nicolas 12 mos. plagio/brachy/resolved tort Murrieta, CA > > > Hi. Guest guest
Your Welcome Debbie. I didn't do much research into what the measurements mean but I do know that we were told our insurance co required " 6mm of assymetry " to consider paying for the band and Ian measured 12mm. Sorry I don't have any other info about what that means! > > > Hi. We go to cranial tech on Tuesday the 24th. I was wondering > how > > > they take the measurements to see about assymetry. Guest guest
Hi Lynette, thank you! Brielle has really light almost red eyebrows and the same on her hair, but at times it looks brown. My mother is a redhead and I would love for her hair to be red. I have dark brown hair, with some red tints when in the sun, so time will tell. Everyone e-mails me when I send out photos asking if she is a redhead, so maybe if she's lucky, I love red hair. > > > > Hi. We go to cranial tech on Tuesday the 24th. Guest guest
Debbie, under " links " the website is listed that explains the measurement terms. (Craniofacial Anthropometry - Measurement of the Skull and Face) For me the explanation on the model's face/head made the terms easier to understand. The good news is that with mild plagio Brielle would probably be done with treatment quickly. The standard time for a DOC band for many of us is about 4 months. It all depends on the age you begin treatment and the severity. You're right though, you can overcome the hot weather issue and everything else if you decide to band. Glad to hear you are making progress with the torticollis. Let us know how your numbers turn out. Lynette, mom to Nicolas 12 mos. plagio/brachy/resolved tort Murrieta, CA > > > > > Hi.
