I had my second round of oxaliplaitin yesterday...all went well...I just wanted to let some of you know if you are diabetic to watch your numbers...the decadron they put in your pre-meds will make your diabetes skyrocket...this is NOT a side effect of oxiliplatin..but of the decadron..so make sure you have a plan in place for the day of Infusion and a couple days after..my regular sugar runs around 100 to 150 and it went to over 500 both infusions and I take pills usually controls my sugar..but have to take insulin shots and watch for at least 3 to 4 days after..and have 4pills a day and 4 shots of insulin per day...so please make note of this is you are diabetic and thinking of chemo..(.watch the decrotin 20milligrams) sorry to take of your time if you don't need this..some of you might already know it anyway..but I did not...hugs and take care..kaye biggs
Guest guest
Kaye, thanks for the tip. Bert is a type two diabetic who takes pills. His sugar usually runs around 98 to 130. He was given some anti-nausea stuff too before getting oxal, but it never made his sugar surge...I don't know if it was decadron or not, I'll have to check.
