Guest guest
My EP¹s nurse told me to ask for Coumadin rather than the generic, Warfarin. I asked why, and got the impression that she felt Coumadin is more effective. Coumadin is rather expensive, however, even if you have insurance, so I am thinking about asking for the generic. Is anyone familiar with the pros and cons of taking the generic? Thanks! -- Kathleen Stept (Dofetilide 250mcg bid, Diltiazem 120 mg, Coumadin 5mg), , MS

My Coumadin manager, too, said she prefers Coumadin over warfarin, yet she freely admitted that some patients taking Coumadin have their INR values all over the place. While fillers, the stuff that is added to make tablets, can have an effect I don't think this is the case here. I have used three different generics and they all disintegrated fast and my INR values are always between 2 and 3. Costco I found to be cheapest, $19.87/#50 - 10 mg. Keep in mind that what you eat can greatly affect the INR values.
