The jaw/ear could be a lymph. Get your dr(s) to teach you how to

examine your neck for places lumps can show up.

It is my opinion all nodules/lumps should be tested to try to

determine if they're cancer. If yours is cancer, these additional

lumps could be where it has spread. I think all should be tested so

procedures can be done before it spreads even more, if it is cancer.

Had my thyroid removed in Nov from suspicion of cancer. Cancer in

both lobes, hadn't spread outside the thyroid but had gone into one

vein (where those dirty nasty cancer cells can flow to other places

in the body.)

Goiters should be regularly tested to see if they have turned into

cancer.

question is: I have a nodule on the back of my neck and one on my

jaw line between my jaw & ear (I think it's a nodule). Is this

normal? They shrink and enlarge depending on my pill timing daily.

The ones on/around my thyroid gland do the same. Should I be

concerned specifically about the one on the back of my neck?

Hi, after reading your mail -- I had a scan, and the doctor kept the results but not the films. They just drew blood but didn't draw blood from my small goiter with a tiny nodule on it.

Do these go away? Can they go away on their own? I believe mind to be induced by another medicine and was curious..

My nodules have not been tested yet. If it is cancerous and is in a vein (as I have a few nodules on top of them) is it really bad? Honestly, that's really scary. I'm going to talk to my doc about it Monday. (I'll call the office, whether I get him or not who knows).

The nodule at my jaw line has been there for about a year, but it could have been there longer.... like I said, it shrinks in size when I'm 'normal' but grows when I need more hormone. What happens if it's in the vein? Then what? I don't suppose you would know the likelyhood of cancer probability?

I do not have nodules, just the goiter but I find iodine makes the

goiter enlarge.. I did not really notice this until I started

limiting the intake..now whether this is because of too much iodine

or being mildly iodine efficent has a way of protecting the thyroid

from auto immunity or whether I just have a strange reaction to

iodine I do not know.

It does sound though that your good days, bad days cause thyroid

stimulation which in turn enlarges the nodules. I would speak to

your doc about working on supressing your TSH and hopefully this

will bring your levels up higher that you do not have good days and

bad days..but good days thyroid related.

Although there is controversy as to whether it actually works or not

suppressive doses of thyroid replacement are thought to shrink small

nodules.

Iodine, estrogen, steroids and thyroid hormone levels in the body all

stimulate the thyroid so keep this in mind if TSH is not the problem

that other issues may need to be looked at.

Was it a radioactive scan ? Did you go radioactive for it ? Yes,

drs usually get the radiologist's report (not to be confused with

radioactive), not the films. Most docs are not trained to read

films. You have copies of all tests done on you, right ?

They just drew blood but didn't draw blood from my small goiter with

a tiny nodule on it.

It is my understanding blood from the nodule does not have to be

drawn. But another test is a biopsy, that's when tissue from a

nodule is taken out with a needle type thing.

I don't know enough about nodules to answer that. But

thyroidmanager.org is a good resource. More than you'll ever want

to know about nodules.

The dreaded " c " word, strikes fear in the heart, doesn't it ? Not

knowing is worse than knowing. Docs and med professionals

apparently tell a lot of us at first about the low probability of

getting thyroid cancer. Something like 3% I think. But this is a

lymph, or it sounds like it to me, but I'm not a medical

professional at all, just been learning about thyroid stuff for 2

months. You're not going to like to hear this, but there's other

cancers that go to lymphs.

I don't know much, I have to wait till early Feb to go over the

pathology report with my endo, that said my cancer had infiltrated a

vein. My understanding is those nasty, dirty, cancer cells can get

in the blood and land anywhere that the blood route takes them.

I'm having my drs show me over and over how to examine myself for

where lumps/growths can show up. We examine our twins just a little

more south <g>, why not learn how to examine other glands ?

Just like if I felt a new lump in my breast, I would not wait on it,

I'd be to the dr that week. I'm not going to wait when I feel a new

lump somewhere else. Hopefully cancer has taught me that.

My goiter came about from my doctor not listening to me when I told him I wanted to get off a medication that surpresses the thryoid hormone in my thyroid. My other doctor found this out and is upset about it. Although the goiter is small with a tiny nodule, is there a way to shrink it or have it go away completely?

We've pretty much got my thyroid levels as in control as they can get... now I want to check the others listed below. My doc initially a few years ago was like.. what's the point of testing your adrenals because you know they'll be off. It sounded really cold and callous at the time but I do understand what he meant now. Treat one thing at a time. My problems do feel adrenal related now. I'm honestly wondering if I started using my asthma inhalers again (steriods) if that would help or not. When I took my inhaler, I always felt healthy... maybe there is a reason. This morning I woke up felt fine with energy, stayed up for a while and went back to sleep, when I woke up then I was all shaky in my hands and felt slightly jittery. I think it's an adrenal response. I know it's not diabetes or anything like that so we'll see. I'll keep you updated :).
