Hi - what values per 100gms have you got for the almonds? Do you

grind them yourself? I've ended up with completely different numbers to you

when I was having a play round on the mealplanner just now, so trying to

work backwards and see where I've gone wrong....

She gets 8.82 gms protein per meal? How many prt gms per kg per day does

that work out to?

PS - Culinary challenged here - be gentle with me :)

Hello, I buy the almonds ready ground, and values are: 21.1g protein,

55.8g fat, and 6.9g carb per 100g. I have also bought whole nuts and

ground them myself, almonds being 24.9g protein, 51.0g fat and 7.3g

carb. These are UK values.

The cocoa I use is 20.0g protein, 21.0g fat and 13.0g carb per 100g.

Are your values higher for the carb? I recently had a conversation

with the Technical Manager of Crazy Jacks organic brazil nuts,

because their values changed dramatically when they changed their

packaging and after a long conversation, it turned out that there are

2 ways of measuring carb - carb by difference, ie where they analyse

protein, fat, water, anything else and then what's left is carb or

alternatively 'available' carbohydrate, which I gather is more

accurate. There is also a big question mark over the fibre being

included or not. I must confess to feeling mighty confused over it

all at the moment, and I'm wondering whether it's the same sort of

difference between net carbs and regular carbs as shown on the Atkins

products.

At the moment, I'm working to whatever is shown on the label, but I'm

not sure whether in the UK, other companies are going to change the

way they show the values too. I may end up deciding to just go with

the published average values given by McCance & Widdowson's (the UK

dietician's 'bible' of values).

Francesca is on 30g protein per day, she weighs 28kg and our

dietician felt that she needed a little more than the 1g per kilo of

body weight. Hence, relatively low carb allowance. She has 3 meals

and 3 snacks.

The carb was a bit different, but mainly because of the cocoa values it

seems.

And only has about 7 gms prt per 400 cal meal, so that's where that

difference came in.

I work to what is on the label too, never gone down the track of adding or

subtracting fibre, net this or that, it's already complicated enough without

going there as far as I'm concerned :)

I'll let you know how I get on if I make the cake, will have to find some

ground almonds first, and go from there. Thanks,
