Guest guest
the skin problem honestly sounds like my husband's reaction to dairy... he thought it was exema at first... now he knows it's dairy.. poor guy, we've been together for 3+ years and this is the first time he has a clear forehead. it would look bumpy and scaly... which is weird because he had oily skin. have your adrenal levels checked also as they can pose lots of problems like this. i wonder how many people are hypo and are really adrenal fatigued... i wonder which starts first?? good luck, andrea Dry, Itchy skin Hi, I'm new to the group. I've had just a slight thyroid problem for the last few years & never really had an symptom from it. I have been on .05 mg? My last blood work done had Free t3 at 2.49, TSH at 3.72, Free t4 at .81 and t4 at 6.9. The lab range I think is 2.30-4.2. My doc. told me my Free T3 was elevated. Well, my periods have been getting irregular since April of last year so I went to my gyno & she tested my prolactin level and it was elevated (range 1.4-24.2) Mine was 47.4 and retested and was a little higher. Another problem I've acquired since Sept/Oct. 05 was my facial skin getting like a rash (itchy & sore) & being swollen around my eyelids. Now the skin irritation is moving between my eyes, down around my nose. It is horrible, it looks horrible and I think it is all related to my thyroid. I started to up my dosage by a half pill and the rash looks slightly better, but still there & really obvious. I have an appt. w/ an endo next week & I'm hoping he can tell me what is going on. In the mean time, does anyone have any input as to the skin irritation. Do you think it's related to my thyroid and my meds needing readjusted?? I'm getting really frustrated w/ the whole thing. Guest guest
Hi, Skin issues can definately be a sign of thyroid probs. Before I was diagnosed, I would break out in huge areas....little bumps and ITCHY! and it seemed to spread to a much larger area...even covering my upper leg completely or my stomach and chest. After going to a regular doc...she said it was scabies, treated it and oh my gosh it got so much worse. Went to a dermotologist...he actually did a biopsy as he didn't know either...turned out to be chronic eczema. continued to treat that...breakouts every couple of months. Still continued even after being diagnosed hypo and prescribed synthroid. However, I have been on Armour for a little over two years. After gettinga farily good dose...it has totally stopped. I have not had an outbreak in well over a year. You said you were taking .05 mg....of what? Your TSH looks to be to high as well. Anyway, for the skin issue, you might want to go to a compounding pharmacist and ask if he can mix up something or recommend something. They tend to be quite knowledgable and can do some creams etc w/o a prescription. Good luck, Kat > > Hi, I'm new to the group. Guest guest
I know dry skin is part of being hypo, and your tsh is headed toward hypo. I read so much stuff on the internet about thyroid, I can't remember where I read this - but swollen around the eyes and the eyes themselves, is a hypo thing. We generally puff up when hypo. Dry and itchy, sounds excema, but I'm not a diagnostician. I expect endo will tell you to go to a dermatologist, you might make that appt now, and if endo ends up being able to tell you what's going on, you can cancel the derma doc appt. Between eyes and nose are oily places. It takes a lot to dry them out. Any changes in soaps, shampoos, conditioners, make up ? Make up too old and harsh on skin ? If you use washcloth, and towel on face, any change in laundry detergent ? I have sensitive skin and my daughter inherited it and we know all these things that can be on clothes or linens that will set us off, and soaps, and laundry detergents used. Usually ours comes out as a chemical burn. Sun - I wonder if the rash will clear up with sun. Some of my skin things go away during summer cuz I'm out in the sun a lot. I'm interested to hear what you find out it is. jane us > > Hi, I'm new to the group. I've had just a slight thyroid problem for > the last few years & never really had an symptom from it. Guest guest
Sorry, I'm on synthroid. I was just reading someone elses post & they said about being on Levox....which i think is the generic version of synthroid? I had been using that & changed medical coverage & am back on the synthroid. Maybe that is what is causing my skin problems?? I'm grasping..... If I can't get this figured out soon, I'm just going to have to rip my face off > > > > Hi, I'm new to the group. Ask endo to change brand name med on you, see if it goes away. What I've heard on thy lists of allergic reaction to the filler, is redness and incessant itching, but different parts of the body for different people. Betcha ! What do I get if I'm right? Do > you think it's related to my thyroid and my meds needing readjusted?? > I'm getting really frustrated w/ the whole thing. > Maybe it is just me..but something does not seem right here.. with an elevated T3 you should not have a TSH of 3.72?? You have lots of storage hormone for T4.. with a high free T3 that would explain a lower free T4..but should not casue a problem as T3 is the active hormone.. Why are you hypo? Why did the doctor decide on synthroid? With increased prolactin levels and an increased TSH and High T3 levels..something is telling me pituary..not thyroid.. Understand the basics.. TSH..thyroid stimulation hormone..this comes from the pituary gland/thymus axis..this is not a thyroid homrone but a thyroid hormone regulator. T4 and T3.. these are thyroid hormones.. TSH stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroid hormones.. mainly T4 bound and some T3.. the body unbounds T4 as needed and the body then converts it to T3 which is the active hormone the body uses.. The body constantly monitors these levels and sends a signal to the Thymus /pituary gland to produce more or less thyroid hormone.. With an elevated T3 as seen in hyper you should have a TSH close to 0..but for some reason you have a TSH above the new reccommended guidelines.. As a general rule...high TSH..low T4 and Low T3=primary hypo.. ...low TSH..low T4 and Low T3=secondary hypo.. ...low TSH...high T4 and High T3= primary hyper.. ...high TSH..high T4 and High T3=secondary hyper.. Although rare secondary hyper is usually caused by a pituary tumor or defect in the pituary gland or genetic. You also having high prolactin levels that are also produced from the pituary gland would but further investigation on the pituary gland.. Your thyroid is constantly recieving a signal that the body needs more hormone and your thyroid is doing exactly what it is told..which makes me think yo udo not have a thyroid problem but another problem that effects the thyroid.. This is why doctors need to look at more than just TSH.. Other than dry ithcy skin can you tell us what other symptoms you are having? What is your resting heart rate ( pulse) and your basal temp? What symptoms did you have that brought you to the doctor to begin with? Kats3boys

Guest guest
Well, I was told I had a thyroid problem because years ago my neck hurt so bad, not a sore throat, but my actual inside of my neck, I couldn't sleep at night. This went on for quite a while & I had some tests done, iodine thing, and was told my thyroid had been inflamed and was now damaged. That's when I started on the synthroid. Now years later, I actually went to the DR. because my peroids were getting really irregular. My gyno is the one that did the prolactin test & she wanted me to go to my regular doc. then, who in turn scheduled me for an MRI of my pituitary. She said my results were normal, but I still have an appt. w/ an endo. this week. I've also had severly dry irritated facial skin, been extremely tired thru the day. Other than that, I'm usually fine. I'm 42, weight about 112# so I " ve never really gained/lossed weight. I just recently upped my synthroid and my face is actually starting to clear up some, and I've also been using Eucerin on it so that may be helping. Other prescrip meds didn't help at all. So, I don't know what is going on w/ my body. You all seem to know so much about all this stuff, I appreciate all your input!! > > > > Hi, I'm new to the group.
