Buying the aids, the batteries, everything. Do you not get any financial aid? We live in Phoenix and have a program called CRS (Childrens Rehab Services). I think you have to have certain income requirements, but they pay for everything: Ear molds, batteries, hearing aids, even dental stuff (he doesn't need that yet). I have private insurance plus medicaid and then crs pays for all the above. I haven't paid a dime for Christian since he was born. Even thought he's a $1,000,000 plus baby (yes, you read that right!). He's probably up to 1,250,000 by now! Anyways, does anyone else not get this? I don't know if it's because Christian gets social security that we get all this stuff, but I'm just curious! I don't know that I'd be able to afford all the " stuff " he needs without it! --- end of quote --- - you're one of the lucky ones. Most of us have had to fight our private insurers, our school districts or just paid for aids on our own, unfortunately.... There's no such program in New Hampshire, unfortunately. Especially when Christian will get his ci next year. I'm wondering why they don't have those programs everywhere!?!?!?! I mean, poor people deserve to have hearing aids too, but it's unfair to ask the non-poor (by this I do not in any way mean rich) to pay out of pocket. I am lucky, but it's been rough coming. Look what I had to do to get it, have a preemie. And I'm thinking his prematurity (the issues that come with that) caused his deafness. Not fair to anyone. I'm sorry you don't have those programs where you live. I've been told we have really good schools out here too. Christian will start preschool at a deaf school when he's 2 years and 9 months old. Speaking of which, are any of your children with ci going to a mainstream school in a normal classroom? Just curious for in the future! --- end of quote --- We managed to persuade our insurance company to pay but it wasn't easy - I think it's terrible that other parents need to know to ask or do ask and then get turned down... I agree that it's not covered when other things that don't seem as important are! Barbara

Our son is HOH, wears aids and is completely mainstreamed. I cannot see why a CI would be any different. Depending on the kid's specific needs and abilities, mainstreaming is certainly an option. Ian has an FM system hooked up to his aids, services of a teacher of the deaf (TOD or HIRS in the official paperwork) and now a kind of laptop that allows him to type his calss notes. There are all kinds of services, devices and modifications that can be put in place to enable a child to be mainstreamed. But before chosing that option, you have to be sure that mainstreaming is the best placement for your kid. Everyone is different and some kids thrive in the mainstream and some don't. So, take this one as it comes. Try out different situations, and see how you child does. If you follow their lead, you'll find just the right solution. Guest guest
In PA we have Medical Assistance that pays for everything earmolds, hearing aids, fm system, speech therapy, dental etc. . We don't meet the income requirements for Social Security, but we do meet the requirements for the Medical Assistance, which covers everything that Aetna doesn't.
