Guest guest
Thanks so much for your response... said something similar - that maybe I'm actually hypo and am experiencing adrenal fatigue. I certainly don't want to make any quick decisions about RAI or surgery...and I am seeing a Holistic doc in Feb who should be open minded to the adrenal thing. I see my family doc tomorrow. Do you think it's okay if he wants to put me on a beta-blocker for my heart palpitations? Other than that, just hold out until Feb when I see the Holistic doc? Just remember if the thyroid is the issue when it resolves you may or may not need the blocker anymore and keep an eye on it. Although going to the doctor tommorrow I would request a full thyroid panel.. Holistic docs can be good and bad. Not to put down holistic docs but some look at the thyroid in general and so many symptoms overlap between hypo and hyper you really need to know what is going on. A holistic doc can treat you much better if they know why and what.. Do not get me wrong I have nothing against holistic docs but I see some fine lines between herbs than can do damage and herbs that can help and chosing which one depends on your disease condition. Get your GP to run labs and then show them to your holistic doctor if gives them both more to work with. Kats3boys

Guest guest
Some blood pressure meds interfere with absorption of thyroid hormone. Have dr cross check it for you. Here's a list of meds that interfere : http://www.thyroidmanager.org/chapter5/5a- text.htm#table4 jane > > Thanks so much for your response... said > something similar - that maybe I'm actually hypo and > am experiencing adrenal fatigue. Guest guest
Beta blockers will reduce the stress to your heart, at least that is my understanding... One thing, though.. one is okay to use with thyroid hormone later, one is not....can someone jump in with the name of the one that is okay with thyroid meds? That way if your choice involves taking hormone replacement later you won't have to change beta blocker.... Topper () On Mon, 23 Jan 2006 19:25:16 -0800 (PST) " J. Guest guest
Propananol is normally used when someone is hyper or having hyper symptoms, it also blocks T4 to T3 conversion..not good if you are hypo or have conversion problems..good if you are hyper and want to slow down the T4 to T3 conversion. Amidorone contains Iodine and should not be used for anyone that is either hyper or hypo as it is known to cause thyroid problems. Beta blockers should not be used in anyone with a history of Asthma but the newer calcium channel blockers are considered safe. Guest guest
Thanks so much for the info! I'm taking 80mg of Inderal per day...do you know if that interacts with Armour? This is from Merck.. -Blockers: Symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism due to adrenergic stimulation may respond to -blockers. Propranolol has had the greatest use. Phenomena that improve and that do not improve with propranolol are shown in Table 8-4. Propranolol is not as useful for stare and lid retraction as once thought, suggesting that both may be predominantly effects (or at least a mixture of and effects). Propranolol is indicated in thyroid storm (see Table 8-3). It rapidly decreases heart rate, usually within 2 to 3 h when given orally and within minutes when given IV. Propranolol is also indicated for the prompt management of tachycardia found in other forms of hyperthyroidism (including thyroiditis), and especially in older patients with no history of congestive heart failure, since it ordinarily takes several weeks to get relief from the antithyroid drugs. Calcium channel blockers may be useful for controlling tachyarrhythmias in patients in whom the -blockers are contraindicated. For details concerning propranolol therapy, see Ch. 199. I can find lots of info on its use in hyper..not much in hypo.. I would think the main worry with Armour would be that it could mask and hide the symptoms of hyper if you are taking too much Armour.. With hyper it is used short term to elevate symptoms of fast heart rate, shakiness etc. until the antithyroid drugs take effect.. I will try later and see if I can find a resource about how it effects T4 to T3 conversion. Kats3boys
