It seems like children are an after thought to many hearing aid companies. There has got to be way to make the BTE aids lighter, more comfortable for the child consumer. I have read that the BTE aids can rub a hole into the cartilage behind the ear, which freaked me out. My understanding is that it was through parents raising hell over the hearing aid batteries in aids not being screwed in that made a difference in how batteries are secured today. Any info on hearing aid companies would be helpful. --- end of quote --- Hi - there are many, many good hearing aids on the market and so many variables - particularly your child's type and level of hearing loss. We've been a Phonak family for quite some time now. My older son wore Phonak Claros - very cool looking hearing aids that are digitals but he was close to maxxing them out so a couple of months ago, we moved to Phonak Superos. My younger son also wears Phonak Superos now - he changed from Phonak Novo Fortes (they probably dont' make those any more). The Superos are a power aid for severe/profound losses and have been great for my boys. In fact, when Sam (my younger son) was fitted with them, he looked at my husband and said " can I wear these home, dad? " . That's just our family's experience - your mileage may and probably will vary!
