Topper might be the one to jump on to this.. Did you tell your doctor that you were taking 5 pills a day and now he has you on one pill a day? You really need labwork to see how well your body was handling and using the Thyroid S. I grain of Armour is biologically equivilant to 38 mcg of T4 and 9 mcg of T3.. So you are giving yourself 38 mcg of T4 for your body to convert and 9 mcg in the morning of T3 to give your body a kick start. With Thyroid S you were giving yourself ?? of T4 and ?? of T3 5 times a day to keep it even during the day... It might be me but I am seeing something wrong with this picture..especailly a dose reduction of this size with out any bloodwork to base the test on.. Your bloodwork may come back showing hypo..now would that be from the low dose of Armour and drop in meds or is that from Thyroid S not working? Your bloodwork may come back being hyper..now is that from the Armour or because the much higher dosing of Thyroid S has not cleared the system yet.. Imagine the doctor's reaction to hyper bloodwork after 2 weeks on Armour and only 1 grain of Armour?? Kats3boys

Guest guest
Yes you are right. The Thyroid -S bottle does not tell how much of anything. I did not tell my doctor I was on thyroid - s because its was hard enough getting him to give me the Armour. I think I will just wait for the blood test in 2 weeks and see what happens and just take my Armour. But if anyone else has advice please jump in here and give it to me. Thanks so much Mari
Guest guest
Thyroid-S is a generic equivalent of Armour. It's the replacement brand that Costco picked up with the brand that I use, Time Cap Labs, was in short supply.... Both of those and Armour all contain the same amount of hormone per grain... 38 mcg T4 and 9 mcg of T3. The difference is the filler thing..... Different brands, different fillers. So far most of the folks that I've had contact with find Thyroid-S to be pretty much the same as Armour, for those that have tried both. A couple have found it to be stronger... and one said that it wasn't any good. As with all the brands... name brand or generic, the fillers can make a huge difference for an individual that is moving from one brand to another... this is such a huge effect that it's even recommended that labs be run after a brand change. That's why I'm bummed that the doc didn't check the current status before changing to Armour.... not a good idea... IMHO. When it comes time for me to order meds again... if I can't get Time Caps I'll be going with Thyroid-S. I've done well with Time Caps and would like to stay with it... but it's out of stock EVERYWHERE of late... well for the last year or so... and hard to come by.... (I self treat, so I need non-prescription sources, that makes finding product harder) Topper () On Mon, 23 Jan 2006 18:37:46 -0000 "kats3boys" writes: I think you really need to look at the bottle to see what Thyroid -S actually contains..Topper might be the one to jump on to this..Did you tell your doctor that you were taking 5 pills a day and now he has you on one pill a day?You really need labwork to see how well your body was handling and using the Thyroid S.I grain of Armour is biologically equivilant to 38 mcg of T4 and 9 mcg of T3..So you are giving yourself 38 mcg of T4 for your body to convert and 9 mcg in the morning of T3 to give your body a kick start. With Thyroid S you were giving yourself ?? of T4 and ?? of T3 5 times a day to keep it even during the day...It might be me but I am seeing something wrong with this picture..especailly a dose reduction of this size with out any bloodwork to base the test on..Your bloodwork may come back showing hypo..now would that be from the low dose of Armour and drop in meds or is that from Thyroid S not working?Your bloodwork may come back being hyper..now is that from the Armour or because the much higher dosing of Thyroid S has not cleared the system yet..Imagine the doctor's reaction to hyper bloodwork after 2 weeks on Armour and only 1 grain of Armour??Kats3boys

Guest guest
So he doesn't know that you were on anything? The labs are going very likely to show your levels still high from the 5 grain dose that you were on... he'll see those levels on the current 1 grain dose and may think he's given you too much.... he's not very knowledge about how the chemistry of these hormones works if he has you coming in just two weeks after a putting you on replacement hormone.. the body doesn't adjust that quickly and show an accurate response to it... 4 weeks is better... 6 weeks would be even better. Guest guest
No.. right now you need to establish with the doc and let him be aware of what you are taking and how much... you need a base line.... You could be totally wild and crazy (I'd do it) go back to what you were taking before..... and stabilize on that yet, you've not been on the lower dose of Armour long.... and then get the labs done to see where you were on that dose.... but it's likely to be a mess when you tell him what is going on..... Have you felt at all different, so far, taking just the one grain of Armour? Feel more tired, less peppy... anything like that?
