ringing in ear

I haven't posted in a long time, but read the posts regularly. We

live in Maine. My son Ben (11 yrs) had his CI surgery (in his left

ear) at Boston Children's Hospital, in October of 2002 and was

activated in November, 2002. He still wears a hearing aid in his

right ear. At his last mapping, in April, he was doing quite well.

However, lately, he has been complaining about a ringing sound when

his processor is on, not when it is off. He has not wanted to wear

it because it is uncomfortable. I tried switching processors (Ben

has 2 Esprit 3G processors) thinking something was wrong with the

processor, but it didn't make any difference. I am waiting to hear

back from his audiologist from Boston Children's. I am wondering if

anyone else has had this problem.

My son has this problem when he's mapped on ACE, so he ca't use that

processing strategy - but he has no problem on SPEAK, so that's the one he

uses. We even tried setting all the thresholds below his normal T level, and

if the processor is on with ACE, he still gets the noise. With the levels at

their correct setting, the noise is loud enough to cover the speech signal.
