Guest guest
A couple quick questions Hi Cheryl, My daughter has had two set's of tubes and we were told that it wasn't necessary also to use the plugs. However she had so many ear infections even with the tubes we always used the plugs. Once she stopped growly so rapidly from the preemie years we had custom swim molds made at the audiologist ,we use them all time when bathing or swimming, even though she no longer has the tubes. Hope this helps. Take Care Colleen > Second question: Clara also has tubes in her ears. I've been putting ear > plugs in her ears when I bathe her and so forth. But I've heard that not all > doctors believe it's necessary to do that. I was just wondering if other > parents here put ear plugs in or not. > > Thanks, Cheryl (Clara's mom) > > >

Guest guest
Dear Cheryl, I would definitely put the plugs in for your daughter's bath or swimming. We learned the hard way Sierra first ent said that it wasn't needed with the tubes in her ears, she ended up with more ear infections with the tubes than before. We ended up with a new ENT and he said most definitely use the plugs or molds during bath time. After we started using them her ear infections decreased dramatically. Hope this helps. Take care and God Bless. Activated 9/7/04 Sierra's story: www.cappskids.org/CAPPSCranioKidSierra.htm www.tracheostomy.com/trachkids18.htm A couple quick questions I wrote a while back asking about ABRs and whether my daughter (almost 2 now) should have one. Thanks to all who responded. We ended up going ahead with it. The ABR shows that Clara has a severe/profound loss in the left ear and normal hearing in the right. This is the same loss as I have. My question is this: The audiologist who did the ABR seemed very certain that her hearing was normal in the right ear. I was under the impression that ABRs couldn't detect a mild loss very well. But she said quite definitely that Clara responded in the right ear at 10db. But when I spoke to the ENT and the audiologist who has done most of her behavioral testing, they say that it's still possible she has a mild loss in the right ear. Why the contradiction? Second question: Clara also has tubes in her ears. I've been putting ear plugs in her ears when I bathe her and so forth. But I've heard that not all doctors believe it's necessary to do that. I was just wondering if other parents here put ear plugs in or not. Thanks, Cheryl (Clara's mom)
