Other than it causes cancer, birth defects, and alters DNA? It binds with thyroid hormone and affects how the thyroid works.... There is evidence suggesting that babies raised on soy formulas are at greater risk for developing thyroid disorders..... The list goes on and on...

Fermented soy, like soy sauce... and one other, can't remember what it's called.. they are okay, the fermenting process gets rid of the chemical that does damage to the body... but all the other junk they put into our food that they call 'healthy' is... well... not...

Soy does not contain gluten. Edamame is the Japanese name for the

fresh soybean, which you can enjoy at sushi restaurants or make at

home. The only problem with soy would be if someone had a soy allergy,

unrelated to celiac.

Soy sauce (as you probably know) almost always contains wheat as well

as soy. Therefore when ingredient lists say soy sauce, it is important

to read the sub-ingredients in the parenthesis, and you will often

find it contains wheat).

Sorry for being so naive.........DO I COMPLETLY avoid SOY after being

diagnosed with Hashimotos? If so I think this is going to be harder

than avoiding GLUTEN :( It seems to be in everything!! If so what

are the dangers of eating SOY?

There are only two things that I still eat that have soy..... cuz I haven't found a cost effective alternative... and that is my salad dressing and peanut butter....

There's soy in peanut butter? I always thought it was just peanuts, oil, and salt.

A lot of the common brands contain soy oil....

Soy is a cheap additive used in a lot of foods to lower cost of production.. our health be (expletive deleted)...

High Fructose Corn Syrup is another cheap ingredient added to sweeten the products without adding the cost of sugar. HFCS actually messes with thyroid hormone conversion. It's found in sooo many things, from soda, to cereals to hot dogs..... can't name them all....

Scudders Peanut Butter has just the peanuts and salt and nothing else. Of course, it costs a little more, and you have to mix it up before eating, but it tastes better, and it's definitely worth it. I've tried one other brand of the natural stuff, but went back to that brand.

If you choose to consume soy anyway.... as far as your thyroid stuff goes.... you need to be consistent with how you eat the soy and then adjust your meds to accommodate that level.

When I was a kid mom got us 'real peanut butter' It's needs to be refrigerated an stirred before use because it does separate.... the stuff that is sold now. even many of the big name brands are self stable and lower cost cuz the peanut oil is extracted and replaced with the cheap soy.....

.... that stuff is then fed to kids.... icky.....

I love peanut butter.. but because of not being able to afford the real stuff... I have to consider it a treat and will only get the chunky kind...

Would you believe that they are even selling soy nut butter...? Yeah.. like that is gonna be a healthy thing....

Yet they can't seem to figure out why little kids are coming down with cancers and tumors....

you're going to eat it as a " treat " , why don't you just get the kind

that's better for you?

This soy thing has gotten out of control. I have gotten to the point

where I only buy 100% natural things if possible or make it myself.

The only thing I can't get around is bread. If anybody here knows of

both a white and grainy bread that doesn't contain soy or a soy

substance, please let me know. I have only found one, but it has

onion flavor to it and this doesn't work with jelly!

I think I found chocolate the other day without soy in it-- don't

remember for sure.
