Thats a low TSH so your idea that its the dosage is probably right.

When I'm that suppressed, i get SVT (tachycardia) and skipped beats..

it only took a small dose adjustment to make them stop and for my TSH

to come up just a pinch

barb

> Thank you for the replies. I've decided not to start on the Paxil

for the time being but instead will call my endo as suggested for lab

values. I did take Buspar in the past after being under a lot of

stress and it did help a great deal. I'm no longer under stress so it

has to be the dosage of Synthroid that needs to be lowered. My TSH at

the present time is .03

It's worth it to check into AN since they were preemies with jaundice.

Relatively low levels of bilirubin can cause it in preemies. You are in a

good area to find out about it being in Lafayette. My sons AN has no known

cause but many on my listserv have preemies that had jaundice.

I'm off to Slidell in a few minutes to buy grocery items we love that they

don't have in NC, sigh.

Take care,

Elaine

I haven't asked about AN, we haven't really had any testing done other than the

regular things they do during an audiogram. The boys were 6 weeks premature and

weighed 5 pounds each, no significant problems- just mild apnea and jaundice. By

the way, we are in Lafayette.

Thanks again,

The problem sometimes with getting a second opinion or just switching to

another neph is just the one you may be experiencing: no other nephrologists

in the area. Nephrologists tend to be concentrated in the big cities, and

many smaller centres or areas don't even have one. There are not enough to

go around. Can your family doctor refer you to one, perhaps? The idea of a

second opinion is that, no surgery is really minor, so there had better be a

good reason to do it.

my tonsils out, and the general consensus seems to be that a second opinion

would be a good idea. I've been thinking a lot about that; I don't know if

I'm completely comfortable with my current nephrologist. Question is,

what's the best way to go about looking for another one? I was recommended

to this one by my urologist, and according to the phone book they're the

only ones local. Is this a matter of just going on-line and finding one

relatively close, or are there any types of resources for this?

Thanks - I did call my GP for a recommendation. Turns out there's nobody else

local that he would recommend - but at least I know who not to go to! :-) I'll

probably just start looking in some of the bigger cities that are relatively

close.

Hi ,

Other than during my crisis last year, I have stayed at about 22-23 GFR for

around 2 years. When it decided to drop from one appointment to the next

then went to 16 GFR, It was like the big OUCH.

Since I have have only seen my new Neph, probably 3 times, he hasn't

discussed dialysis or transplant yet. I figure that if he doesn't take

action by the time I have a s. creatinine of 4.0 then I'll take the ball

into my own hands and coax him along a little. I'm a firm believer in

having a strong voice in one's care. I know what a 5.2 s creatinine feels

like and I don't want to get close to that again without being prepared. I

felt like I was coming unglued from the inside out.

I do still suffer from exhaustion and have to catch up over the weekend. I

try to do everything that I've always done, I work full time, travel and

have a very busy social life. I guess that I'm afraid that someday I

probably won't have the energy, so I think I overdo it all the time now.

But right now, I can hardly move, I'm bruised and battered. Over the

weekend, I decided to water ski, and haven't been on skis for 4 years. It

was all I could do to get this almost 50 year old butt out of the water.

Today I feel a hundred and it has nothing to do with IgAN. :)

But, thanks for asking, I know that you and I stay rather close with our

numbers, I will pray that you can stay at that 20GFR. It's a little

disheartening to go under the 20 GFR mark. Also I know that you're much

thinner than I am and you will probably not be able to tolerate a very high

s creatinine either.

Love

Connie

Re: nephron website

Hey Connie,

I am with you on being grateful that I am at 20 on my GFR. 's rapid

decline was certainly a wake up call for me. You are still inspiring to

me with

your example of going strong and working full time at 16%. Has your

doctor

talked to you about dialysis/transplant options yet?

Hi Connie,

Does it hurt to bend your arms to brush your teeth or hurt to bend over and

tie your shoes? Water-skiing takes a definite toll on muscles that you don't

otherwise use and boy do you pay for the fun. We went water-skiing this past

weekend too, but I stayed and napped while the others went out so I have no

soreness.

It is encouraging to me that you have stayed at the 22-23 mark for a couple

of years. That means I can make it until my youngest finishes her

undergraduate work and that is my goal.

I know what you mean about the exhaustion and needing to recover on the

weekends. Sometimes I am not good for much of anything on weekends other than

just

my chores around the house and resting to build up for the coming week.

I am sorry you have dropped below 20. I just hope you can stay stable where

you are for a long time.

Love

, I'm so glad to hear your attitude has changed and things are looking brighter for you. Just keep that positive attitude going and you'll be just fine.

Hugs,

Deanna

Thanks

Thanks to all of you who responded to my e-mail yesterday about my doctor visit.......

Today is another day, another outlook on it. I am still depressed over it all but will not eat myself to an earlier grave because of it.

I will go back to my 1500 calories and stay there. I hope I didn't do to much damage yesterday but guess that darn old scale will tell the tell Tuesday.

I have an amazing bunch of on-line friends and please know I care about you the same way you care about me.
