Guest guest
Hi Bessebug, We women(you are woman I presume) should all be taking 1500 mg of calcium a day. Check your calcium amount and increase it if you are not getting that much. Your symptoms are indicative of low calcium. It's often difficult to fulfill the requirements but do try. And remember not to take any calcium within 5 hours of your thyroid replacement as it interferes in absorption. Gail dx: 1968, TT, pap. & foll. well differentiated w/hurthle cell, RAI, rad.neck dissection, lung surgery, hashimoto, tg antibody 575, iodine resistant, existing thyca nodules in lungs. Guest guest
Hi Bessebug and welcome~! You have had excellent replies to your question. I'm wondering if you are on any vitamin D analog, like Rocaltrol (calcitriol)? I had the numb arms in the beginning if I slept with my arms above my head. My doctor said, " Then don't sleep with them above your head " . Frustrating, to say the very least. My body eventually adjusted to the lower levels of calcium and I can once again sleep with my arms outstretched above my head. :-) Can you get your calcium level checked? Then you will know for sure if that is the problem. The " irritable and shaky " sound more like your blood sugar may be low. Though low calcium can make one irritable. HTH, in OH dx 1965 P/F thyca, no RAI, hypoparathyroidism 1982 Recurrence to neck and chest, 176 mCi RAI 2001 Clean scan PTL~!

Guest guest
And also, your body doesn't absorb more that 500-600mg at once, so the total also has to be spread out during the day. bj Re: Question about possible low calcium > We women(you are woman I presume) should all be taking 1500 mg of > calcium a day. Guest guest
Bessebug, the same thing happens to me. I am just about on the same track you are with regards to my treatment. Also I get cramping all over, too, and internally. Feet, hands, neck, side, back, inside stomach (the most worrisome place). They keep taking my calcium levels and those tests are fine every time. I can be reaching for something and this can bring it on, although it can happen for no cause at all. As with you, I often get that twitching thing at night in my legs. It becomes so uncomfortable that I can't sit to watch tv any longer and just go to bed to avoid it. I am hoping that the longer I am back on my synthroid, that it will get better. Having been without synthroid for 45 days really wrecked my muscles, and I have found myself getting stronger every day that I am back on synthroid.
