I'm not sure what it will mean for DFR, I'm pretty sure what it will mean to

Eddie. It will make him shake his head and wonder why he ever left Fort

Worth. Dallas devours its police and fire chiefs with its archaic city manager

system.

This will be fun to watch.

It is called passion, desire and commitment to do your best. After all, 27

years with FTFD is impressive, let alone the experience level obtained. I

say Congratulations and Good Luck. Mayors don't last forever.

In Dallas, the Mayor has no power. It's all in the City Manager, who is a

certified idiot. The City Manager outlasts many Mayors. That's why I'm

skeptical. I too wish Chief Burns the best, but he's going to have a baptism

by

fire before he knows it. Dallas is not a nice place. It is about equal to

the District of Columbia in dysfunction. The FD is not as dysfunctional as

is the DCFD, but no Chief can really achieve anything significant because the

City Manager is always on his ass.

It will be interesting to see how much political clout Chief Burns can

muster. I'd guess not a lot.

Stay tuned.

Why leave FWFD? You don't deal with EMS and you have an incredible

relationship with the city. Who would want to leave that.

It sounds crazy to me. Who would want to deal with every day and

all the fighting between the people and the city. You never hear anything nice

on the NEWS about Dallas City Hall.

I agree. Sometimes it's better not to take the " easy road, " but to take

on a challenge and try to improve things for the betterment of the

members and the citizenry. No risk, no gain. If it works, he takes all

the credit, if not, he takes all the blame. Tough job. Best of luck to

Chief Burns and the DFR.

Hopefully with the way screwed the Fire and Police (who were both

key in getting her elected) we will not have to worry about her having a second

term.
