Guest guest
It doesn't look like your converting sufficiently.... how do you feel? Most folks feel best with the Free T3 at the top end of it's range, your's is at the bottom... the TSH and the Free T4 don't look too bad.... If you aren't feeling as good as you think you should... we'll dig into things to help your conversion... some is supplementation... some is how you eat (when/how often) and it could be that you might need direct T3, either via Cytomel (synthetic T3 that you would take in addition to the T4) or switching to Armour..... Guest guest
With that ratio of T4 to T3 (plenty high T4, but still a gastly low T3), I would think that you are not converting enough T4 to T3. Upping the T4 won't help in a case like this, so I bet you already know that I'm going to say that you are an exemplary candidate for Armour Thyroid (or one of the other brands of natural thyroid) or adding a little T3 to your T4. Don't know whether you have cellular damage or maybe some other problem that is keeping you from converting to T3, which is the useable form of thyroid hormone. Do you take estrogens? Doy you consume soy regularly? Do you eat a lot of goitrogens? Do you take selenium? These are just a few of the " stoppers " . Would appreciate advice on lab work > Hi everyone! > > I've been a member and a lurker for quite sometime...seems like > everything would change just when I thought this would be a good time > to join in. Guest guest
--- In The_Thyroid_Support_Group , topper2@j... wro Hi Topper, Right now its really hard to judge exactly how I feel because of the stress I'm under...so its been pretty much hit and miss on how I take my thyroid meds. Actually, it seems I can only take the higher dosage of synthroid 75mg for a few days at a time...I start to feel hyper - strange - can't quite put my finger on it, so I switch back to lower dosage 50mg and I feel better. I have WAY more energy than I've had for years after having the parathyroid removed. But now that I know what it feels like to feel better...and not just to be told ... " your getting older " ! I want to feel the best I can because I know I don't have to settle if there is a chance of getting stronger. My body is SO sensitive to so many med's that I can't take half of them. So again its hit and miss what works for me. The synthroid seems to work but I'm sure something is missing. I am posting my test results from June (on only 50mg dosage ),Oct when I first started the higher dosage of synthroid...but was only taking it a couple times a week. My Free T3 was much higher then. So could that mean I ONLY need to take the 75 mg a couple times a week? I feel better than I did before surgery and on the days when the aches and pains start creeping up I take the higher dose of synthroid and keep taking until I start to notice hair falling out more...hyper feelings..and then I go back down to smaller dose like a never ending circle but it does seem to work pretty well except I'm afraid it may be doing more harm with the seesaw effect. Guest guest
, I thought you may suggest Armour *smile*. Right now if possible I would like to stick with synthroid but maybe add something else to help. I'm extrememly sensitive to meds and with my daughter being so ill I can't take a chance of me having adverse reactions. I don't take estrogens, soy, or selenium but I do eat some of the goitrogens ..maybe once every couple of months. (brussel spouts/brocolli) I'm on a very low fat cholestral diet with fruit and veggies. My drink of choice is water (more than 8 bottles a day). No soft drinks or caffeine products. Thanks again for your help and advice Judy > With that ratio of T4 to T3 (plenty high T4, but still a gastly low T3), I > would think that you are not converting enough T4 to T3. Guest guest
Actually, it seems I can only take the higher dosage of synthroid 75mg > for a few days at a time...I start to feel hyper - strange - can't > quite put my finger on it, so I switch back to lower dosage 50mg and I > feel better. Curiousity question, are you taking 50mcg tablets and/or 75mcg tablets or do you take either a 50mcg tablet or 1 1/2 50mcg tablet? With the flucuations between hormones though including cortisol I am wondering if you don't having something else going on such as stressed adrenals or another hormone imbalance.. Diet/Exercise? Dosing at the same time..spreading meds apart with same spacing everyday? Kats3boys

Guest guest
Kats3boys, I take 50mcg and 75mcg tablets. I alternate between the two trying to break in the higher dosage. I take one (either 50 or 75) every morning same time (alarm set)...I don't eat or drink anything for 1 hour...then I drink some water. I eat a banana....walk up and down the stairs a bit getting the birdies up. Try to stay busy moving around...taking care of phone calls.... 4 hours later I take my calicum eat small lunch...fruit and cottage cheese or fat free yogurt take vitamin D de caf coffee - 4 cups/skim milk dinner: veggies, salad, fruit take the remainder of vitamins snack fat free yogurt or fresh fruit calicum and vitamin D 7 - 8 bottles of water a day sometimes more During the day or before bedtime I work in riding my stationary bike for 20 or 30 minutes. My legs usually bother me and this helps a great deal..especially before going to bed. I've always been a night person so its very difficult for me to get a good sleeping schedule going....but if I take 1 mg of melatona I'm out like a light in 30 minutes! If I am lucky enough to go to sleep I usually wake up around 3am and guess what?? I crave chips and I don't even eat them!!! I figured out it was the salt not the chips!! adrenals??? During the past 8 months I'm gained and lost the same 7 pounds so many times that I've given them each a name!!! I have lost inches...my clothes fit better and in most cases have gone down a size or two...for me (right now) this is even more important than pounds...my family keeps saying I've lost soooo much weight when in fact its inches not pounds.... Thanks for the help.... always appreciated!!! > > Actually, it seems I can only take the higher dosage of synthroid 75mg > > for a few days at a time...I start to feel hyper - strange - can't > > quite put my finger on it, so I switch back to lower dosage 50mg and > I > > feel better. > > Curiousity question, are you taking 50mcg tablets and/or 75mcg tablets > or do you take either a 50mcg tablet or 1 1/2 50mcg tablet? > > With the flucuations between hormones though including cortisol I am > wondering if you don't having something else going on such as stressed > adrenals or another hormone imbalance.. > > Diet/Exercise? Like I said maybe a reach but try taking 1 1/2 of the 50mcg tablet for a week and see if that makes a difference.......if you still get the too much hyper then try taking 1 1/4 for a few weeks..62.5mcg..
