Guest guest
HI Chantelle, When had BAHA screw surgically put it it went well. It was along surgery. We were nervous, this was her 35th surgery. WE had it put it the same time she was put under to surgically close her trach site. They left the packing on for 4 months to heel. The skin grew over the site so they had to do more surgery cutit down and graft skin from her belly. Then it became infected. The whole process for us, before we could " turn it on " was about a year. I think we are the exception. The company they used for her processor etc is Entific. _www.entific.com_ (http://www.entific.com) There are different types of BAHA's. Good Luck, I hear there are a lot of people very happy with it. Guest guest
I also wanted to ask how would you rate the baha surgery in terms of surgery risk/stress. I guess like a heart operation would be really major and evasive. My Audiologist was like its a totaly major operation. Im thinking compaired to what? 3 or 4 open haert operations wich ive had or more like having tubes put in my ears kinda minor? Guest guest
But was still able to use her other hearing aids for that year? Im not sure about not being able to hear for a year. That makes me a little unsure. Chantelle
Guest guest
Chantelle, Kennedy had stage 1, where they implanted the screws in June of 2005. (they only use one screw, but Dr. Papsin puts two in, just in case one doesn't integrate with the bone well). She could wear her softband BAHA about a week after surgery (you can still wear digital BTE's I would think during healing times). She then went in February of 2006 for her Stage 2, where they put the abutment on. That had a healing cap for four weeks (during which time she could wear her softband aid), we then got the BAHA divino in March. I would say as far as surgeries go, it wasn't bad at all for Kennedy (it was her 17th & 18th surgeries) She very quickly recovered and we left the hospital the same day both times. I actually signed up at the entific site as a doctor (which lets you have access to all areas) and you can watch an actual movie of the surgery, how they do it, etc. Might not be for everyone, but I'm an information hound; I like to know EVERYTHING...haha... Hope this helps! PS - Her Divino is in for repairs already though, which makes me a bit nervous - glad we had the softband for a backup. > > But was still able to use her other hearing aids for that year? Guest guest
hi chantelle, lisa and others question about BAHA. for what kind of hearing loss is this used. I mean online i got the impression that it is mostly for conductive or mixed hearing loss. My daughter has sensorineural. but it is mild to moderate. at what stage is BAHA recommended. Thanks Rita > > Chantelle, > Kennedy had stage 1, where they implanted the screws in June of > 2005. Guest guest
Im not sure exactly what is considered conductive or mixed. The bone hearing has to be good but the ear drum hearing has to be bad. Thats what i have to be qualified. if you had both bone and ear hearing loss then you could possibly be a canidate for a cochlear implant wich is different then a baha. Guest guest
There must be a conductive component for the BAHA to be considered. > > hi chantelle, lisa and others > question about BAHA. for what kind of hearing loss is this used. > I mean online i got the impression that it is mostly for conductive or > mixed > hearing loss. > My daughter has sensorineural. but it is mild to moderate. > at what stage is BAHA recommended. > > Thanks > Rita > > > > > > > Chantelle, > > Kennedy had stage 1, where they implanted the screws in June of > > 2005.
