Guest guest
I know I'm posting a lot, but so much is happening. After several phone calls today, my endo's nurse just called to inform me I could have my RAI on Tues. the 25th. I very politely asked about discussing my dose with either the endo or nuclear med doc sometime next week, while recovering from my surgery. She said she would ask. She never mentioned the LID, but I told her I had started it 2 days ago (that will be exactly 14 days!). She didn't seem too excited, just said OK. I was beginning to suspect that while the endo did mention it to me, he didn't emphasize it or provide much info, a couple of do & don't lists (the permitted list had CREAM!). Then it was proven when the dietician from the hospital returned my call. She asked if my doc had said I would be on a LID, & said it wasn't something the hospital had been called on to provide. I told her I was a nurse & my research had convinced me that for the first 24-36 hrs after my dose I needed to stay on a LID. She was pleasant, so I decided to try responding in kind. I told her not to worry, it wouldn't be a hardship for me to bring some of my own things for that time frame, as long as tea, coffee & juices(in the can so I could read label) were provided. She seemed a little surprised but agreeable. I plan to tackle this issue with my endo to help future patients, especially scary since other endos send patients to this hospital too! But for my sanity I need to get thru tomorrow's surgery, stay on the LID & have my RAI in 12 days without fighting anyone else. I'll use the great info here to take care of myself on these kinds of issues. Joining this list will have been probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I'll have to reschedule a 2nd opinion (had one for the 27th, I'll still be glowing), & probably have a TSH well over 100 by the 25th, but it's a lot better than waiting until March 10th!
