Guest guest
Sorry to hear of your hospitalization Was the follow-up Bicarb level high? Was the 11 lab error? Was the level of " 11 " after a further spaced meal than the " 17 " ? I know we, as parents question everything Best to you Sandi

Guest guest
, have they talked about putting her on a system alkalyzer, like Bicitra or Polycitra? I wonder what would make her bicarb fluctuate so much? Is she well hydrated? Sorry to hear you're back in, but sounds like you can make some headway while you're there, w/ the VEEG, etc. Barb Swoyer, Jake's mom Langan is Back in the Hospital = ( Hello all. Just wanted to give an update. After being released on Sunday and having her best day since the diet started, Langan's bicarb levels went down Monday to 11. We talked to our neuro here in Cincinnati and she wanted us here to treat. Soooo we packed the car and here we are- got in late last night. They took a bicarb level when we got here and it was at 17???? Not sure what to think about that. It might have something to do with how she ate yesterday. She ate her breakfast but screamed through her second meal and wouldn't eat it (at 11, as scheduled) so her nanny gave it to her when she woke up at 2:30. Then she was screaming for her next meal at 4 (she usually has it at 3:30) so we gave it to her. And she had her dinner on the road at 7:30 (normal time). So I am wondering if 3 meals in 5 hours pushed up her bicarbs. Hmmm. I wish her nanny had just thrown out that meal and waited for her next meal time but she didn't know b/c that never happened before, so here we are. We're waiting to see the bicarb level from this morning and to see if they can get us in early for the VEEG (we were supposed to be here Monday). Just wanted to give an update. Please keep Langan in your thoughts! , mom to Langan, 21 months old and keto kid since 11/03 (med free since 4/2/04 and getting close to taking care of those seizures!!) Guest guest
Hello , Oh dear.....at least I'm glad you are where you are. Hopefully they can get this figured out quickly and take care of all the other stuff while you are there. Do they think her current levels on the diet (ratio and cals) are making her walk too fine of a line with the bicarb? How have her ketones been? That " best day since starting the diet " sure sounds encouraging, doesn't it? Wishing you all the very best.....please keep us updated. Dina and Sydney from this group (and Doose) are there starting keto right now. Maybe you'll bump into them in the hallway! Say hi to Dr. H and Sue for us! Take good care, Glenna > Hello all. Guest guest
, So sorry to hear that you are back in - BUT like several others have said maybe this is really a good thing- if you/they can solve the acidity thing - it may be the missing piece of the puzzle so to speak. Sounds like you have an EXCELLENT team there. Hang in there!

Guest guest
They have her stabilized at 16 now so we're going to stay on the sodium bicarb and see what happens with that. They think that she was acidotic for so long that it will take a few weeks for it to level off completely. We're FINALLY heading home- hopefully it'll be a while before we're in the hospital again. Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad to see your posting. I was getting worried, knowing that you had gone to the hospital, and then we didn't hear anything. You're hoping not to go back for a long time. Does that mean that they did not do the VEEG? Or is Langan just doing so well seizure- wise that it is no longer warrented? My only dissapointment is that I wanted to come visit but couldn't get away until the weekend. But then, better that you are home, so my complaint is really just a moot point. I know you have written about it before, but it must have gone over my head. In very simple terms, could you explain what made Langan's blood acidic and for so long?
Gretchen > They have her stabilized at 16 now so we're going to stay on the sodium bicarb and see what happens with that. They think that she was acidotic for so long that it will take a few weeks for it to level off completely. We're FINALLY heading home- hopefully it'll be a while before we're in the hospital again. > > Thanks! > > > Langan is Back in the Hospital = ( > > > Hello all. Please keep Langan in your thoughts! > > , mom to Langan, 21 months old and keto kid since 11/03 (med free since 4/2/04 and getting close to taking care of those seizures!!) > > >
