Guest guest
To have a CEA test done between the colonoscopy request and the actual procedure. The trouble is, most people who are not health care professionals, colon cancer patients or caregivers have never heard of a " CEA " , don't know a colonoscopy from a sigmoidoscopy, and are not even familiar with the old fecal occult blood test (FOBT) (Hemoccult) They would have to depend on the doctor to recommend something, and since the colonoscopy is " preventative " , and the insurance company is...er....and the doctor......well, you know ! ! Guest guest
Also......CEA is NOT reccommended as a screening tool for colon cancer.None of the data on it reccommend this and all are very explicit in it's limitations. It is meant to track known cancer's recurrence or spread and doesn't always do a very good job of that due to so many variances.
