Dr Mosca is absolutely impressed with Kai! 3 casts for correction

(not counting the tenotomy cast)!! He said he has NEVER seen a foot

correct so quick ...

I have to say, this cast makes me cringe everytime I look at it. Kai

tends to rotate his hip outward, so with his foot rotated out 70

degrees it looks like his foot is on backwards! I hate it! He was

terribly uncomfortable for several hours after the casting - mainly

when he would attempt to move his leg. I think he was getting

twinges in his ankle.

Yesterday was the first time we were able to feel his achillies

tendon. It is terribly tight - it feels like a little bar down the

back of his ankle!

Just a little note ... I saw in an earlier post a bit of discussion

about 2 week casting. While it is not the " ideal " it doesnt seem to

hurt. Due to the fact that Dr Mosca is so extremely busy, Kai's

casting has been/will be 12 days, 12 days, 17 days, then three

weeks. Considering how beautifully his foot is coming along, I would

say there has been no adverse affects!

Angel,

I'm so glad that Kai's treatment is progressing so nicely. What a

blessing! The tenotomy cast should stay on for 3 weeks to allow the

tendon to heal completely. You should be able to give Kai baby

tylenol and motrin intermittently if he is uncomfortable at all from

the tenotomy. I think the biggest concern for Sanna's baby is that

since the baby is already nine months old, the doctor shouldn't want

to wait 2 weeks between cast changes because that could throw an

extra month of time in the treatment- which wouldn't be a big deal

for a newborn, but a nine month old's foot will be more difficult to

correct. I'm sure changing the first casts every two weeks is not

necessarily bad for the baby (unless they're growing too fast and the

cast gets too tight), it's just not standard protocol because it can

be changed every 5-7 days.

How did Kai's allergy appointment go? I've been thinking about you!

Hope your family is doing well and that you're getting through all

these trials with your sanity in-check!

Hugs!
