Guest guest
NOT THIS YEAR Dec,2007 By Annette aka angelannette The Holidays are filled with joy and tears, Memories form of yesteryear, All our families we hold near resolve to have a better year. Dinner plans have all been made, Some have Goose with marmalade, Relatives come to stay, Some refuse to go away. Kids excited just to see, What Santa put beneath the tree. Dad has picked a diamond ring, Mom got him an electric thing. Aunt Betty brought a pumpkin pie, Uncle Al a fifth of Rye Warm glows of candles fill the room, Giving off their sweet perfume. Outside the air is crisp and cold, Twinkling light of green and gold The traffic hits an all time high, But no-one sees what they just passed by. A building looking cold and damp, " Oh look there Mommy, it's a tramp " A van with homeless folks, some just kids, Gathering wood from discarded skids. Just a few and, maybe more, seek warmth inside a shattered door. Not my job, you think so clear, Gave at the office for the year. The thought had never crossed your mind, To extend your help, to be so kind. To help those in need. Are we so blind? So we rush and bustle stress and fuss, Someone else will help, " they don't need us " They don't need us to give today, not even one full hours pay. They don't need me to serve the poor, Poverty is not at my door. (MAR) NOT THIS YEAR
