Guest guest
Hi , I was surprised to hear that Dr Ponseti said that the degree markings on the shoes are not correct. I'm wondering now if my son's shoes are set correctly. Did Dr Ponseti mention how much the markings are out by? Or how did he set the shoes to the correct angle? Thanks, [with Alister, 6mths, right clubfoot] > > , She has the markings with the numbers on the plate that is > on the bottom of the shoe that is attached to the bolt but you don't > go by those. Guest guest
Hi, We got our brace in Iowa, and the orthotist there (Chris) told me not to try to use the numbers on the bottom of the shoe plates. I think he said that they don't help for figuring the angles. I think they " eyeball " it when setting the shoe angles; obviously they have a lot of experience doing so. The way I've done it, when I've had to here at home, to make sure I have it right, is take the brace, put it down on a piece of paper, and trace the line of the bar, then draw a second line through the center point of the shoe. Then I used an old plastic protractor with angle measurements .. to make sure they were set at 70 degrees, and 45 for the other foot. Hope this helps. and > > > > , She has the markings with the numbers on the plate that is > > on the bottom of the shoe that is attached to the bolt but you > don't > > go by those. Guest guest
, I emailed Dr.P pictures of Isabella's Brace because the right one looked off a little. I told him that they are set to 70 degrees by the markings on the bottom of the shoe plate. He emailed me back and said to disregard the markings on the bottom of the shoe plate. He didn't say why or how many degrees they are off. He said that Isabella's shoes looked like they were at the correct degree. I thought i had the email but it must of got deleted. I am sure they are set right. I will email Dr.P again and ask him why we can't go by the numbers on the bottom of the shoe. > > > > , She has the markings with the numbers on the plate that is > > on the bottom of the shoe that is attached to the bolt but you > don't > > go by those. Guest guest
P.S. In my previous note, I said that they might " eyeball " it in Iowa.. but actually, now that I've said that, I don't know how they do it themselves. I'm sure they have some sort of system. But when I talked to about setting the angles on a new bar we had to get via mail, he said that's how I could do it.. that it didn't have to be precise down to the single degree. As I said, I did try to be more exact, though, by drawing the angles on paper.. and I ended up confident that I had it correct. Hope this wasn't confusing! Guest guest
Thanks , when i emailed Dr.P the pics of the bottom of Isabella's DBB one of the bolts was at 70 and the other was not at 70 more like 80 and he told me to not go by the numbers on the bottom of the shoe plate and i don't know why, he said that they looked like they were set at the right angle. I thought you would go by the bottom of the shoe plate the numbers on it but his email said no and i never asked him why. I guess because he said they looked fine on the pic. Has Dr.P told you anything like this? > P.S. > > In my previous note, I said that they might " eyeball " it in Iowa.. > but actually, now that I've said that, I don't know how they do it > themselves.
