Guest guest
From the Avastin.com site: Common side effects you may experience In clinical trials for colorectal cancer, the following side effects occurred more often in people receiving Avastin plus chemotherapy than in people receiving just chemotherapy: Nosebleeds Some people receiving Avastin in clinical trials experienced minor nose bleeding Nosebleeds usually stopped on their own or by holding a tissue to the nose Call your doctor if you feel dizzy or faint or if the bleeding doesn't stop after 10 to 15 minutes Hypertension (high blood pressure) Standard oral medications were used to manage high blood pressure Tell your doctor if you've had high blood pressure in the past Proteinuria (too much protein in the urine) Other side effects included weakness, pain, diarrhea, and leukopenia (a red uced white blood cell count) Serious side effects you should know about In clinical trials for colorectal cancer, a small percentage of people treated with Avastin in combination with chemotherapy experienced serious side effects, including gastrointestinal perforation (2%) and slow or incomplete wound healing (1%). In rare cases, these side effects have been fatal. Please speak to your doctor about the common and serious side effects observed in Avastin clinical trials. What side effects have been seen in other types of cancer?* Serious side effects observed in lung and breast cancer Although Avastin is only approved for colorectal cancer, it has been studied in different types of cancer Some people receiving Avastin in combination with chemotherapy for lung cancer experienced serious tumor-related hemorrhage A small group of people (2%) receiving Avastin plus chemotherapy experienced congestive heart failure. The majority of these people had taken a type of chemotherapy called anthracyclines (a drug used to treat breast cancer) in the past or in combination with Avastin Because everyone is different, it is not possible to predict what side effects any one person will have. If you have questions or concerns about side effects, talk to your doctor.

Guest guest
The only problem that I had with it was elevated blood pressure, which needs to be watched. The very last treatment that I got caused blood vessels in my face to pop and I got a severe headache that I could not get rid of for a day or so; we're pretty sure both were do to a transatory rise in blood pressure. Long term, it also got raised by about 10-20 (i.e. from 110 or 120/60 or 70 to 110 or 120/90). We invested in a blood pressure cuff for whenever the next ride is. She has stage 4 colon-cancer, sigmoid and below, tumor removed > almosy 3 mos ago. She had no problem with the Xeloda (was given prednisone > and B6 with it). thanks so much for everyone's thoughts....Jackie
